I would like to recommend Back Of Beyond by C.J. Box A thoroughly enjoyable thriller, my review is here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

message 3: by Maggie (new)

Maggie I recommend the book I'm reading at present, The Secret History. Quite suspenseful.

If you're looking for a movie you can't go past a great Hitchcock movie, some of which are based on books: Jamaica Inn, Rebecca, The 39 Steps, The Birds & Other Stories

message 5: by Alan (new)

Alan Thirty-nine steps is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies. This is why I was happy with the design of the cover that the publisher of it choose: It has a Hitchcock look to it.
I'm No P. I. by Alan Zacher

message 6: by Toby (new)

Toby (tfitoby) Having just read The End of Everything and having my mind blown I think I should recommend it. As I mentioned in my review I may have to retire from reading after this as I can't see anything else ever being as good right now.

message 8: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 280 comments Some gripping reads in that list, Brenda.

I'm honoured and chuffed to see you included a couple of my titles. Thank you. :)

They are worthy of the list Vicki:)

I haven't read this one but it's just come to my attention and sounds good... No Man's Land (A Russell Carter Thriller) by Roland Fishman No Man's Land by Roland Fishman

message 11: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 280 comments Sounds good, Brenda. And if he teaches writing, then I would hope it was.

Another one for my list. Thanks (or not). :)

message 12: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11993 comments Mod
I agree:) I'll wait till it's on special before I buy it!! It's not like I have nothing to read at the moment;)

message 13: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 280 comments Ditto! :)

message 14: by Roland (new)

Roland (rolandfishman) | 2 comments Vicki and Brenda - I do feel the pressure of writing groups and then putting No Man's Land out into the world. It's one thing to see what other people need to do with their stories, another to make it work on the page yourself! I'm pleased to say a lot of our writers have said they've enjoyed the novel and found it useful when writing their own. Roland

message 15: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11993 comments Mod
Thanks for that information Roland; I'm quite looking forward to reading it:)

message 16: by Roland (new)

Roland (rolandfishman) | 2 comments Glad to hear that Brenda. Look forward to hearing your take on it.

message 17: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Preston | 1 comments Hi I recently read a new one I was recommended on both facebook and GR. It is called Jeremiah's Codes by Paul Gilmour and it was really good. It was non stop action, suspense and intrigue the whole way. 2 days reading is all it took me and I am one slow reader so thats a big compliment to the author. I highly recommend it as a must read. Anyway thats my bit for now

message 18: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 280 comments Well, you've sold me, Andrew. Thanks for the recommendation.

Brenda | 11993 comments Mod
LOL! It is, and I recommend them all...plus there were a heap of 4 as well!

message 24: by Marian (new)

Marian Phair (marianphairauthor) | 12 comments I noted there are none by Patricia Cornwell, or Kathy Reich's. Two top American crime/thriller writers. Have you come across these authors? If not I highly recommend you look them up, and guarantee you'll not be disappointed. Another favourite, Scottish author, Stuart McBride. Happy days.

message 25: by Brenda, Suspense lover! (new)

Brenda | 11993 comments Mod
Kathy Reichs is in there Marian - I really enjoy her writing, and have read pretty much all of them! But not fond of Patricia Cornwell I'm afraid!

message 26: by Marian (new)

Marian Phair (marianphairauthor) | 12 comments I love both authors. Experts in their own field when it comes to forensics. They write about what they do every day for a living. Personally, I love the research that goes with writing in this genre. I may never achieve what these ladies have done, but I get a lot of enjoyment from writing, and to me that's what counts. Do try Stuart McBride. Flesh House is a good one to start with. :)

Susan May (susanmaywriter) Just found this for FREE in audible: Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft. Great for all those thriller/horror fans. Joe Hill is Stephen King's son and I absolute loved NOS4A2. So go grab it while this one is FREE. Sounds like its a goodie.

Kerri_M | 788 comments I took up challenge from Brenda to find some Scandi cosy mysteries.

We all know about scandi-noir, does scandi-cosy exist?

Well they aren't thick on the ground, but I have found a few (note: haven't read them, so can't recommend them or anything)

The Lavender Ladies Detective Agency: Death in Sunset Grove first in the series by Finnish author Minna Lindgren.

Short stories cosies Candied Crime by Danish writer Dorte Hummelshoj Jakobsen

I thought I found a Norwegian cosy writer, but after further investigation thought they were more police procedurals with eccentric policemen.

Not a sniff of a Swede.

With the Danish being all hygge and everything, I thought there might be more, but looks like cosy fans need to look elsewhere for their fix.

If there is no Swedish cosy to be found you could try finding an audio copy of the September book, whatever it may be from the fab selection, that is narrated by the Swedish Chef from the muppets. that would surely lighten up whatever was being read! ☺ Bork! Bork!
(Probably setting myself up as an A Grade nut with this comment)
