I have seen many/most of the adaptations but there are a few older ones I have yet to get my hands on. Anyone seen the ones made in the 1970/80? Recommend any of the older adaptations? (I have just purchased 1980 P&P so I hope that's good :) )

Irene | 271 comments I don't know this adaptation. But I've seen the 1940's one with Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson.
The movie is very different from the book, the plot is quite changed, but Laurence Olivier is the perfect Mr Darcy, even better than Colin Firth.
If you can tolerate the plot changes, it's really entertaining!

I have Infact seen that one and yes (apart from the costumes (which you get used to!) and the plot changes (I may start a thread on this adaptation as I want to discuss what people thought of the plot changes) it was very enjoyable!! Olivier was a great Darcy and it really was enjoyable!!

I was talking about any of the Austen.
I know there Is a S&S made in 1971 and 1981 and a Persuasion in the 80's. An Emma in 80's I think. Northanger Abbey in the 80's (I have seen the Mansfield Park made in the 80's)

Nicole(thereadingrebel) (thereadingrebel) | 158 comments I really liked the older version of Mansfield Park. The acting was iffy on some parts but I thought they really did a great job staying true to the story.I have an older version of S&S and thought it was good(acting a little iffy in some parts also)I really liked that Willoughby explained himself in that one. That was the only thing missing in the 1995 version of S&S for me.But still the 2008 version and 1995 version are much better.

I agree about MP.

Which S&S is that? 71 or 81, or if it's easier, who was in it?

I want to see the older S&S and I agree about that being lacking from the 95 - he needed to come back into the story and explain (not that it made me like him more!) I was glad of that in the 08, and will be glad I'm sure when I see the older S&S
