Many book companies has recently been making book trailers to get people to read books. Do you watch them? Do you like them or hate them?

Express your opinion here :)

message 2: by Kierra (new)

Kierra (kierrarose) Most that I watch don't seem to fit the book at all. The people I see in the trailers don't look anything like I imagined in my head. But yeah you might be watching better book trailers

I am not a fan! I rather read descriptions of the books because most of the time the trailers are lame.

I see you what you mean! Alot of the book trailers I've seen aren't very good but a few actually made me want to read a book!

message 5: by Karina (new)

Karina I don't watch them at all. I think I've only seen about three.

message 6: by Kierra (new)

Kierra (kierrarose) Yeah, me too....i think it was for city of bones and some other ones i cant remember

The only ones I've seen are Harper Teen's Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/harpertee...

I guess it's a good way for people who usually do not read t become more engaged in reading.

Dina Heikal (dhekal) | 442 comments I think it's a great idea, i make trailers myself for the novels i finish writing.

You should post them on youtube maybe? I really liked the trailer of Slide and it made me want to read the book so I can see how they can be helpful.

Mehwish naqvi (mehwishnaqvi) | 135 comments I do watch book trailers and I think its good because they kind of give you the idea of the book.

Though I don't enjoy book trailers I did think City of Lost Souls had a sick book trailer.

It's horrible, not how i imagined the characters at all

I think many times the characters don't look like how I picture them but it's still fun to see a book trailer just like it's fun for me to see movie commercials before seeing a movie.

message 15: by Jay (new)

Jay Book trailers are cool but Movie trailers are better

Movie trailers are different though because they have been doing so for much longer, they have more money to produce them, the actors used are actually in the movie..

What book movies are you excited for the Fall and Winter season?
I'm excited for the first Hobbit movie, Perks of Being a Wallflower, and Life of Pi.

Some book trailers are so boring and would make ppl not want to read the book. That's what I thought when seeing this book trailer of Cinder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXrMAF...

They preview it for the population that doesn't like to read... They are targeting the audience who looks at digital media more, which is funny when they are promoting books...

And the reason these things are cheesy is they basically took the summary on the back of the book and turned it into a video. While some of the trailers are pretty cool, I don't really watch them...

message 27: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jazzyjams) | 1616 comments Excellent plan! Advertisement, a meal, and money all at once :D

I disagree. If this is what it helps get people more engaged in reading books then I think it is good.

Whatever makes people read books is good except for Fifty Shades and erotica.

Fifty Shades is pretty self-explanatory... It's like mom-porn... We don't small kids who are surfing the internet finding videos on it and erotica... Little minds are already damaged enough...

Mom-porn? What is that? Okay, but those small kids can find videos similar anyway. It's the internet...you can find anything. Plus it's not like book trailers for these type of books would contain nudity or sex.

Mom-porn is Fifty Shades xD But seriously, that book is an example, since who is it most popular with? Middle-aged woman, and what's in it? Sexual content... And probably some "attractive" guy(and I haven't read it, this is from hearing about it).
XD But I feel bad for the parent and the kid in this situation... The kid is scarred for life, and the parent has to find a less disturbing way to explain whatever it is that the kid found on the internet...
True, but I'm sure they hint at it...

message 36: by Karina (last edited Oct 02, 2012 02:30PM) (new)

Karina Yeah, i've read it.
I am sure they do hint at it but if they are small kids, chances are they won't even catch the hint and I am only saying that the things used to advertise books such as Fifty Shades would be nothing compared to the things one can find on the internet. A kid finding a book trailer would be better than coming across actual porn or videos with graphic content. (which are not difficult to find)

message 37: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jazzyjams) | 1616 comments True... The internat can be a wonderful and scary place, all at once.

message 38: by Karina (new)

Karina Yeah, it is.

message 39: by Michele (new)

Michele Brenton (banana_the_poet) | 11 comments I think of a book trailer as a book advert. It makes more sense that way. Adverts are made for just about every product that exists and why not for books?

Here are some of mine.

This one is a parody of Go the Fuck to Sleep and one of the first I made - it covers a lot of books all at once.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfV5qG... - Please buy our f***ing books!

This is for my Fifty Shades of Grey parody - it just covers the first of the three poems from my Fifty Shades of Blue - the trilogy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLIItv... - Fifty Shades of Blue - the animation

My main intention is to make something fun, entertaining and to cause comment and discussion - so that folk might share and get curious and maybe - just maybe - buy one of the books.

message 44: by Karina (new)

Karina How do mobile libraries work?

message 45: by Jon, The Paperback Prince (new)

Jon (scottreadsit) | 5707 comments Mod
Well they have a van with books you can check out and the van drives around town or has a place where people go.

message 46: by Karina (new)

Karina I know that but is it a part of a bigger library and when you are done with the books you just return them or wait for the mobile library to come by again? and Why do they have them?

message 47: by Jon, The Paperback Prince (new)

Jon (scottreadsit) | 5707 comments Mod
It is usually part of the public library. You can return them to the regular library or the van. I think it's supposed to be so that they go all around so that people who have no way of getting to the library (maybe people without cars, and it's too far to walk, or old, and sick people) can get books. I don't know why they have them, that was just a guess.

message 48: by Karina (new)

Karina That is probably it. It's cool though.
My library doesn't have that but they deliver books to those that aren't able to leave their house.

message 49: by Jon, The Paperback Prince (new)

Jon (scottreadsit) | 5707 comments Mod
That's kind of like the mobile library.

message 50: by R.M.F. (new)

R.M.F. Brown Mobile libraries are for small towns in the middle of nowhere. Always a tragedy when they crash or breakdown!

Back on topic: I believe that books are usually good (or bad ) enough to speak for themselves. Only the richest authors could afford the hollywood treatment, so it's not something I'm in favour of.
