Mandy (gillmandy) | 7 comments The whole series was great. I absolutely loved it.
However, the movie was an absolute dissapointment.

L I loved the Inheritance cyle series and the book Eragon, but to me (like Mandy) the film let the book down.
It could have been great, as great as the Harry Potter series or Lord of the Rings but sadly the acting was poor and the storyline made to seem like a children's tale rather than something which could apeal to all. Also, it was extremely short and left me feeling as if there could have been so much more added to it to give it depth and 'life' instead leaving me feeling a bit empty. One should not ask themseleves the question 'and what really was all that about??' afterwards, as the story just did not seem 1. made that believable (they could have made it so that one actually believed in Dragons & their riders) and 2. the main good vs evil plot was as strong as any other great fantasy work.
For such a fantastic piece of writing i was left not only disapointed but saddened as to why they could not have made it so much better, so that readers would have the oportunity of seeing all the films rather than just one...that ended on a cliffhanger as if it would be continued.

Mandy (gillmandy) | 7 comments there are rumours about the making of Eldest...just hoping it is not a mess like Eragon.

message 5: by L (new)

L Interesting...Mandy. I wonder if they will make another film?

L There are a few on the group's bookshelf, as well as the amazing Dragonology series.

I agree, this movie was a big disappointment. I have read the first three books. I have to finish the series soon.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 52 comments I agree the books were a whole lot better than the movie.

L Welcome to GoodReads Alexis! It is nice to meet a reader who is as enthusiastic about Eragon as i am, including passionate about the book when you compare it to the film adaptation. I have to agree totally that the film just let the book down so much.

Fangirl all you like! The films for JRR Tolkien's the lord of the rings were and are increadible!!! It is such a shame that Eragon didn't have the same impact. I just wan't the book to be 'magical'. Look at other fantasy works turned into film. Harry Potter for example or Stardust, they are all amazing. It was the detail that was missing, and the acting as the strong themes were just not expressed - it felt like i was watching a disney kids film at times. The book may be designed for the young reader, but is just as versatile as Harry Potter for both young and old to love it.

Couldn't agree more. There where so many plot holes that it is not salvagable. I was so disappointed, wanted so bad for it to be good. But like you guys said before, the books are ALWAYS better.
Really Alexis, I didn't realize you just started. I didn't even notice, you fit right in!
Anyway, rant all you want! It gives us more to talk about, so don't stop. I would have found that out about Murtagh unless you fangirled on us.

The Lord of the rings films were amazing! I don't think I have seen a better adaptation. Peter Jackson just has a way to make his films epic! He keeps the integrity of the books and he really pays attention qaulity. One of my favorite directors.
Did you guys know that he bought the rights of Temeraire! I am so excited to see what he does with that! First the Hobbit though, which we all know will be great.
Harry Potter was great too.

message 19: by L (new)

L I am REALLY looking forward to the hobbit, as not only a fan of the lord of the rings films that were AMAZING but also a huge JRR Tolkien fan. I am a member of the Tolkien Society in Oxford and meet other people who are as insane as me...all deeply facinated with the history of Middle-Earth and this increadible creation.
SO EXCITED!!! fantasy fan :)

Yep, it came out in 2006. The book is much better however, and I doubt we will see movie versions of the rest of the Inheritance series.
