C.J. Pinard (cjpinard) Writing Competition, September 2012

Topic: Witches & Warlocks

Word Count: 2,000

Competition Due Date: September 30, 2012

Hello All! Carolyn here, writing competition moderator. In honor of both our BOM and upcoming Halloween, the competition this month will be about witches and warlocks! The minimum word count is 1,500 words and the maximum amount of words is 2,000. This is just to be a short-story. (if you use Microsoft Word, the word count is tallied in the bottom left-hand corner, if that helps). You can copy/paste into the folder when you're done.

The topic of witches and warlocks can vary any way you'd like. Anything from Glenda the Good Witch to the Wicked Witch of the West to a normal ol' human with clarvoyant powers, or palm readers. You decide. It’s your baby. Be creative and as original as you can!

Also, please be cognizant of your grammar and spelling. We do not expect perfect, professional, polished work by any means - this is an amateur writing competition afterall; however, it never hurts to have someone look over your story before you submit it. A great story can be ruined by spelling and grammar errors that can make it look immature or hard to understand. Creativity is the key here, though.

For your submission, make sure you put your name and the name of your story at the top of the page, and put your story in the “September Writing Competition” folder only – NOT this one.

As far as prizes go, they are as follows:
1st - $10 Amazon gift card
2nd - $5 Amazon gift card
3rd – A Halloween or witch bookmark

Use the September Competition folder ONLY for submissions. Please keep comments to a minimum.

Okay, folks, let’s get to writing! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

Ray Daley Witches and warlocks eh? Mind you, I hadn't ever written about Shapeshifters until the last compo ;-)

I will apply my mind and see what (if anything) I can come up with.

Chris (rawr-reads) | 2 comments I may just try my hand at this one...

Ray Daley Woohoo! I was fortunate enough to find a framework I sketched out WAY back in February and am currently working on it now. Hopefully 1500 words shouldnt prove to be too hard this time.

C.J. Pinard (cjpinard) Okay, it's September 1, lets get writing!

Ray Daley Struggling to reach 1500 words here.

Can't believe something so short is being such hard work. I guess I've still got a week and a bit to do some more.

I'm struggling too. Do I just leave the work here for everyone to see? I think that my proposed entry is a bit too far fetched dealing with genes in space. I'll see.

Ray Daley There's a second thread for the actual stories Lynne.

I finished & submitted mine earlier, it's called Which! and was titled that from the get-go. Struggled to hit 1500 but when I finally did a word count I was a bit scared to discover my story about witches was 1666 words.
Tweaked it slightly and upped it at 1668 words, supersticious much? Better safe than sorry, I say.

I'm still finding my way around the goodreads site and I cannot even get my shelves sorted out Raymond! I guess I must be slow on the uptake but where is this second thread for submitting the actual stories? I seem to be on a constant magical mystery tour!

C.J. Pinard (cjpinard) Did you figure it out, Lynne?

Glad you changed that word count, Raymond! Spooky! ;)

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

There's a lot to take in Adele but yes, it has definitely helped. Thanks!

C.J. Pinard (cjpinard) Okay we have one more week left for submissions. The board will close by midnight on Sunday, September 30!

message 15: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Pinard (cjpinard) It looks like we only got four entries this month. Note to self: Don't do witches and warlocks again ;)

We'll have another contest in November. I'm up for suggestions! :)

I'll get the judging done this week sometime. Thank you for your entires!

Ray Daley It wasn't an easy subject to get in the limit.
