Book Series ~ Which Ones Lost Their Touch?
Maximum Ride and Alex Rider- Totally agree with you. Max should've stopped after book 3 or 4 because it just turned weird. Especially when Dylan showed up- I lost interest after that.
Alex Rider was awesome but a bit too repetitive.
I haven't forced myself to read Twilight yet so I can't give a good opinion with that.
Also, Hunger Games was good for the first one and a half books then it turned horrible(in my opinion).
Deltora Quest got a bit old after the first series, but it wasn't too bad.
There's probably a million other books that I can't remember right now...

AGREED. They should have just stopped when Max and Fang got together!
I think
a) Hunger Games
b) Pretty Little Liars ( I am up to the final arc Book 9 and I still haven't finished) She should have just stopped after the 8th. The last 4 books are not necessary.
c) The lying game- I am currently on the 4th and apparently there are two more afterward. When the hell are we going to know who the killer is. The first three were awesome and now the 4th is not that interesting yet.
That's all I can think of.

I agree with the Maximum Ride series, Patterson should have stopped after 'Max' came out. 'Fang' and 'Angel' were hard to follow (view spoiler). Also the last dragon chronicles by Chris D'lacey, he should have stopped after the first three and left it a trilogy. (view spoiler) The series no longer has anything to do with the first three books, which are the books that I loved.
I know this will be controversial, but I really thought the Hunger Games took a nose dive after book 1. By the end of book 3, I wanted to throw the book at the wall--from the murder to the living in isolation to the abandoned by her main love interest, it was like a book about another (less cool) character to me, and I hated the ending.
I actually liked the hunger games. The main series that took a downfall for me is Twilight. Don't get me wrong, I'm a crazy twilight fan, just it seemed as if everything was dragged out through the series. It would've been better if she did three books instead of four.
Ok I agree with everyone that's saying Maximum Ride should have ended BOOKS ago!!! Seriously, James Patterson STOP. Just stop! Although I did buy the most recent (and last :D) Max Ride book because I have no willpower and am ever hopeful!Hunger Games..I'll always love it, but the first book was definitely the best.
Umm TONS more I'm just drawing a blank!

I haven't read the Lying Game yet but I have read Pretty Little Liars. I haven't read past book 8 because I don't think there should be anymore books!!!! But now there's I think 12?! That's crazy! It was getting way to repetitive for me!
I also think House of Night shouldn't be as long as it is. The plot has gone way off of what it was in the first four books and now it's pretty far out there (if you know what I mean)
Melssabellum wrote: "I also think House of Night shouldn't be as long as it is. The plot has gone way off of what it was in the first four books and now it's pretty far out there (if you know what I mean)"Totally agreed!!!
Pretty Little Liars for sure! Should have stopped awhile ago! I also think the Evermore Series. I lost interest after the 3rd one.
Pretty Little Liars, when i was in 7th book? why didnt the author just tell us who is "A". Gossip Girl - It should be stop at 5th book. Its just getting annoying
Olivia wrote: "Pretty Little Liars for sure! Should have stopped awhile ago! I also think the Evermore Series. I lost interest after the 3rd one."
I lost interest after the 1st one (Evermore).... although my attention span isn't very long

I AGREE

Evermore was death! I love Anthony Horowitz, so I loved the Alex Rider series :)
I'm going to add Fallen, it had quite an interesting prologue, but after that... Garbage.

I lost interest after the 1st one (Evermore)......"
Haha ya it was just repetitive and just not good...
Definitely Twilight; I actually liked the first book but the others weren't as good (the last one was AWFUL!!!); when it comes to the Hunger Games I have the feeling that the first one was AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING and then Catching Fire was good but Mockingjay almost killed me because of the way it ended!
Melssabellum wrote: "Yes, and Ever got so whiny I just couldn't stand it"She really did. I just couldn't keep listening to her whine! AHH

Anna wrote: "Olivia wrote: "Ana wrote: "Definitely Twilight; I actually liked the first book but the others weren't as good (the last one was AWFUL!!!); when it comes to the Hunger Games I have the feeling th..."True.
I will add Vampire Kisses. It should have been like 5 books. But its too cliche and it end in the ninth book. I still love it though
1.Brian's Saga (Hatchet books plus other outcomes) 6th grade mandatory book read. Honestly, I think the author ruined the book by writing other outcomes and continues of Brian's adventure. To me, he should have ended on book 1 and leave readers wanting to read different books by him and not burdening them (or me) with Brian going back to the wild, staying in the wild for a winter, not liking high school and going back to the wild, etc2. The Clique books (Lisi Harrison) I liked the Clique books but... 20 books is alot (counting EvErThInG) After the first 9 or 10 books in the actual series it got silly, kinda sloppy, and repetitive for me. There's so much 'mean stereotypical alpha girl' I can take by ANY author.
3. If anyone remembers these books; Boy/Girl Battle by Phyllis Reynolds Taylor. Cute but after like, book 6 it was just repetitive.
4. Alice books by Phyllis Reynolds Taylor. I at first thought that those books were for the younger genre but then it got into the more adultish genre. I think she should have separated the series so that young kids wouldn't pick up book 24 and be shocked at the content.
And lastly,
5. The series of unfortunate events. (Lemony Snicket) I just wish he had brought the end at book 7 or 8 because 13 miserable books is miserable to read. Yes, it had its funny moments but they were taken away by another unfortuante event.
And so, my list of series that lost their touch.
1. Series of Unfortunate Events: I agree with Monique, this one should have just stopped at the seventh. After that, every bit that made the books enjoyable kind of disappeared.
2. Gregor the Overlander: I felt like it should have just kind of slid to a halt. Each book added a new adventure and it wasn't exactly connecting the books. She should have just stopped after three books.
3. The Hunger Games Trilogy: I'm not saying that the books were bad, but Mockingjay was disappointing after the other two. She obviously shouldn't have stopped with Catching Fire, but Mockingjay should seriously be rewritten.
4. Lastly, Narnia: I adore these books, but I felt like they kind of lost their touch in the Last Battle. Also, Horse and His Boy was disappointing to the max. As much as I love the idea, they got kind of dragged in the Last Battle and Horse and His Boy.

Leyah wrote: "Hunger Games. I loved the first one, mildy liked the second, but I hated the third."Agreed. Mockingjay was definitely a disappointment compared to the HG and CF

And I totally agree with the Clique books!!! I loved the earlier ones, but they got pretty repetitive and overdone

I completely agree with you Olivia!

I agree with Pretty Little liars. She should have stopped at the 8th book. I see no point to have written the last 4 books.

Exactly!!! Author's need to know when to end a series!
Okay, so i am on the second Maximum Ride book and am enjoying it at the moment. Which book should I stop on?Personally, against many other people's beliefs, I think that the mortal instruments series should have stopped at the third book. It was such a great ending to a wonderful trilogy, then the fourth book came out and I was like what the heck?? I read it, and I really think that it should have stopped after the third. Opinions?

For maximum ride I believe that everything could have ended beautifully at the fifth book (called Max). Unless you want to get into conspiracy theories, crazy terrorists, and love triangles just stop at Max.
I agree with you on the Mortal Instruments series, the fifth book was better than the fourth but I think the author would have been fine leaving it a trilogy.

I see your point about the Mortal Instruments! When I finished City of Glass I was so sure that was the last one! I mean sure, there were a lot of unanswered questions still, but I think it wrapped it up nicely. BUT. Even though City of Fallen Angels/Lost Souls weren't as good as the first three, I love them and am happy Cassandra Clare is continuing!!
Have you read the prequel series Infernal Devices? Because those are seriously AMAZING!! I like them better than the Mortal Instruments series even!

Yes!:)

- Maximum Ride (This should have just STOPPED when Max and Fang got together!)
- Alex Rider (For me, although I loved all the books, I always KNEW he was going to get out of the situations and it got a little repetitive for my tastes)
- Twilight (Yes, amigos. At one time I did read the Mother of all Vamp Romance novels and although I didn't mind the first, I read the rest with the words "MAkE HER A FREAKING VAMPIRE ALREADY!!" inside my head. Draaaaaaaaged out!)
