I was thinking this weeking about media exposure and war. Media celebrities and less known members of the media are embedded with combat units during combat operations.

Of course with that is the live camera feed that comes with it. And I beleive overexposure.
In a way it is instant gratification, reporting as it happens. Not the outcome.

There are more good things than bad things about this.
The good thing is, it portrays soldiers in only a light that they can be portrayed in.. As warriors. It also keeps some immature soldiers soldiers from doing something stupid because it will be caught on camera.

The downside.. why would anyone want to read a book about something that already happened ? It is something that probably was not even news worthy to begin with.

I thought about that after I wrote My Journey as a Combat Medic. Is there going to be enough media exposure after a good book was written by a relatively average soldier.

At want point does the reading public get tired of reading about the Navy Seals ? I say to the Seal who wrote this most recent book.. Best of luck and go for it. It is a bandwagon that he is on and he might as well milk everything that he can for it.

In a way, I am on my own bandwagon too, I wrote My Journey as a Combat Medic with the hopes of it becoming a number one best seller. It was self published initially and then picked up by Osprey Publishing and released as a Ebook, but reality sets in. I dont have the major media exposure and the major Hoopla that the Seal has had.

One the other hand, I wrote to my hearts content and enjoy my writting. My Journey as a Combat Medic is not a book about the glamour of special operations, although I spent 5 yrs in a special operations unit and went to war with 1st time with my special operations unit. It is really about an average combat medic doing some pretty cool stuff that the media does not cover.
