I raced Tropical Storm Isaac to finish the Summer SRC before we potentially lost power. Floridians live with one eye on the weather map during storm season! Please read two books:

Book A: Here in Florida, we are on a first name basis with our tropical storms. So please read a book for which the author, as listed on Goodreads, has a first, middle or last name from one of the Atlantic Cyclone Names lists. There are six current lists: Tropical Cyclone Names OR you may use a name that has been retired: Retired Hurricane Names Since 1954 The names must match exactly: no spelling variations allowed.
Required: List the name you used and which list you found it on when you post.

Book B: Read a book which has all the letters from the word STORM in the title. You may use the subtitle, but may not use the series name. The letters may be in any order. Please indicate the letters in your post.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 855 comments If the book's title already has the word "Storm, storming, storms" in the title, is it acceptable? Examples:

Storm Front
Riding the Storm

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments I have a question about names and storms. Rick Yancey was born as Richard Yancey (Rick is just it shortened). Will this work for the name Richard? I was wanting to read The Monstrumologist. Thanks!

Ashley FL | 721 comments storm the title is absolutely acceptable, assume it is spelled correctly, and so contains all of the correct letters ;-)

message 8: by Ashley FL (new)

Ashley FL | 721 comments Kathryn, I am on my phone, so I can't see your link, but I think the general rule is that the author name *as listed on Goodreads* has to match exactly to the storm name. That just makes it easier for the Meds. If there is a book where the actual cover does not match the Goodreads author name, let me know and I will research it.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3051 comments It makes it easier on the meds? :)

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 855 comments I'm assuming that we can't read two books from A or two from B. It has to be one from each category, right?

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments Sad day! *Curses authors who don't go by their full names*

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments If anyone wants a double hitter (doubt it counts for both books) but Victor Hugo. Victor is next up in 2015; Hugo was retired in 1989.

Kathy G. | 1931 comments I'm using Nicholas Sparks--- if anyone had him in mind. :-)

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 855 comments This is also a good task for Georgette Heyer -- Georgette is on the active Eastern North Pacific list. :D

Bea I had Carol O;Connell, but I may rethink that and use Victor Hugo as I want to finish reading Les Misérables and Tien hss a aread-along planned for that book.

The task specifies Atlantic Cyclone Names so I am not sure that will work.

I was thinking of doing that read-along as well.

Bea I looked at the Atlantic list again and saw Chris (Bohjalian) and Michael (Connelly) in 2012.

Ah. I see what threw me: "six current lists". I wasn't counting the years as individual lists. :)

Funny, I read the task correctly the first time. I obviously forgot what I read. ;-)

Ashley FL | 721 comments Sorry for the typos -- stupid phone auto-correct :)

Yes, must be Atlantic. Sorry, no Pacific names.

Yes, must be one from A and one from B.

Triple points if anyone can use Katrina -- we named my daughter that in April 2004 -- just a few months before the (in)famous storm!

Chris (chrisfair) Would The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan work for 25.3 B. ? It definitely has all the letters of STORM in the title (sea of MOnsTeRS), but would it be considered one of the Young Reader Books that are limited to 5, 10, and 15 point tasks?

Chrissy, the mods have approved The Sea of Monsters and for purposes of SRC it is NOT considered a Young Reader Book, so read away!!
