I really liked this book. It was kind of "the bachelor" with a YA future distopia twist. Over all, story and characters weren't great but they were presented in a manner that sucked me in. I hope the author hurries up with the next book.

I was the same way. Some tweaking to make people more likable, but as the story progressed I got more interested.

I am going to skip this one. The trouble it sparked back when, turned me off ever wanting to read it.

What trouble?

It started with Wendy Darling's review, a 1 star review, but written with respect. The author started bullying on-line and it went like wild fire from there. Got to the point where they outed Wendy with her real life info. I have no respect for that at all!

There was absolutly nothing wrong with that review and for the agent to use the language she did and in public on the internet where it can spread like wild fire andnever be erased she cant be to smart.

But yeah i never had a intrest inthis book and now i certainly dont.

Dang. I didn't hear about that. The agent did it or the author?

If I remember right, at one point they both got into it.

I'll look into finding a copy of this one, I've been meaning to read it.

Okay, so I did some research. The agent was an idiot. The author, after her agent mentioned it, said she'd look into getting some friends to help "like" good reviews. I think authors do that all the time. Or, someone at the publishing house at least. It sounds like the author was just trying to help promote her book the best she could. The agent should be fired. If she wasn't already...
I'd borrow it and not buy it. If you end up loving it then buy the next one. Apparently there are a lot of authors that go through and bitch about reviews. Many of which have been getting caught. I saw something that Rachel Caine wrote that was really cool. Apparently she went through peoples bad reviews and posted on her blog what she could learn from each of the negative responses in order to better her next story.

I think new or newish authors do this more than established ones. I haven't seen what you are talking about with Caine, but Stacia Kane has been very vocal about this, her blogs have been funny and chastise those acting inappropriately.

MOst of the really established authors that I like go through the negative reviews and "learn" from them.

I think it's great that they can do that.

This was a pleasant surprise. I was not expecting this book to soo good. I didn't really mind the inevitable love triangle that much. Looking forward to book#2.

I thought that this book was just so-so. I think the book would have been a perfectly fine stand alone if it were about 50 pages longer and and if someone had edited it down a bit. Making it into a sequel or trilogy or whatever makes me not want to read the others.

Ya, I'm not sure how the following books will work. I got really lucky that I read this on a day that I just in a really mellow mood and didn't want high drama or comedy. Any other day and I would have been right with you Tya.
I'll never understand why sometimes it's all about out mood.

So, I'm half way through and I'm beginning to get really, really annoyed because it doesn't seem like anything is happening. One chapter is all, "I have feelings for Maxon!" and the next chapter is "Oh nos! I still love Aspen!" and then every third chapter is, "Maxon is disappointing me and being a princess looks hard!" meanwhile the war is not moving forward at. all. and Maxon is constantly reassuring America that he still loves her but since at the end of this competition he's expected to be engaged to someone so he's spending alot of time with the other girls to find someone he could fall in love with if America breaks his heart which makes America pouty and cry a lot in her bedroom. So, I skipped to the end to see who he chooses and I don't have the first book in front of me but I SWEAR that it ends in the exact.same.way America determinedly deciding that she's going to do everything that she can to prove to Maxon that she cares for him and that shes in the competition for love HIS LOVE. Which means: NOTHING HAPPENS IN THIS BOOK. NOTHING AT ALL.

So. I've given up. I so don't care enough about this series to sit through however long it would take me to sit through to watch this back and forth nonsense for another 200 or so pages. I maintain what I said in my earlier post: this series could have been a standalone with a good editor and 50 more pages. Now I'm all annoyed because I thought the so-soishness of the first book was because it was a first book and the series would get better. I have no hope of such a thing happening. Thanks ever so for the WASTE OF TIME.

If you remember, nothing really happened in the first book either. For some reason I was interested anyway. I guess it slows down even more for you to give up on it.

I just finished the last book. I usually can't stand books where the characters are idiots who create the entire plot by getting in their own way but for some reason I keep wanting to read these. The end had some very large holes and this series should really have only been one book but I enjoyed it and listening to it distracted me from a very rough plane ride so all the angst was worth it.

Colleen. Who did she choose? Tell me both boys throw her over and have a torrid love affair of their own!

I gave into the spoiler bar! Which, would have been very silly if I hadn't considering I'm the one who asked and all--ha! But, I'm not surprised. Not surprised at all. And while I had no burning desire to read that book, now I have closure and have no desire to ever go near the series again. Yay.
