At the Top by Michael Donovan with an introduction by Harold Robbins (published 1986) Golden Days by Harry Zeederberg and illustrated by Abe Berry (published 1956). I am surprised at the comparative rarity of the books I've recently acquired. This feels like a good way to start a new month!
Where I live the towns all have a "special" holiday. For the most part it means a reason to have a carnival in the town and get some people to come spend money. This is the first year that I have heard that they were having a book fair. It was a buy one get one sale:
Found in a charity shop this afternoon, a nice little hardback reprint of The Wind in the Willows from 1979:
Just ordered Knit Your Own Zombie: Over 1,000 Combinations to Rip 'n' Reassemble for Horrifying Results and Evil Knits: 20 Projects That Go Bump in the Night from Amazon, and I bought The Other Half Lives in a charity shop this morning. =]
Picked up four books yesterday, a copy of David Attenborough's Life in the Undergrowth, Excalibur by Bernard Cornwell, a Folio Society edition of The Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne by Gilbert White, and an old pocket edition of The Black Dwarf and a Legend of Montrose by Sir Walter Scott, published in 1901.
I don't have much money for books, I usually rely on the library. But this week I bought Suncaller, which is written by one of my best friends, as I felt it was time I actually got round to reading it, especially as he's now working on his second book.
Recently one of my local bookshops was having a 3 for €5 sale so I brought the following: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
Night Road by Kristin Hannah
The Naming of Eliza Quinn by Carol Birch
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
Tara Road by Maeve Binchy
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
It feels like it's been forever since I bought a book. I was going through withdrawals. So yesterday, I gifted
for my friend's ereader and bought myself
and
.Maybe that will tide me over for a while.
OK...here is my book score today at the local book sale:
I got all of these for $2.00!!! Most are my fave authors!! Had to brag a little..lol! :)
That's very cheap Kim - good work! :-)Just picked up a copy of Mapping the World: A History of Exploration by Peter Whitfield, a lovely large Folio Society book in a slipcase decorated with an old map of the New World - £7. My third Folio Society book (my local Oxfam shop gets in loads of these!).
This month so far borrowed three.Got free some little religious books from a bible company that sent me a free study NT bible last month.
Also bought:
A lot of them used and from friends from the library sale, some new from Books a Million and one from the Dollar General store.
From what I remember, theres probably more I just have a horrible memory. XD
($.99)
($1.99)
Some Sookie Stackhouse novels I was missing.
And I downloaded some free ebooks from amazon for reading on my laptop.
I had promised myself that I would be abstemious this month. The best laid plans etc....

. Enough already.
I passed a bookstore that was having a closing down sale today and got the following:Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich
Sealed Letter by Emma Donoghue
Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving
The Woman He Loved Before by Dorothy Koomson
Girl in the Woods by Jennifer McMahon
Midwife on Call: Tales of Tiny Miracles by Agnes Light
A Is For Alibi and B is for Burglar by Sue Grafton
I have not bought anything this month so far, though there are books I am wanting. But I am trying to wait till bookfair first weekend of November. I have plenty to read.
I have loads to read too but keep finding interesting books to buy, though mostly reasonably cheap ones from charity bookshops. Picked up this book on Charles Darwin for 80p on my way home from work today:
My last trip to Half Price Books (Book Buying Addicts' haven!) netted me
to feed my Civil war addiction;
and
for my light hearted reading collection. Each cost only $1 on the discount shelf!
Found an old 1930's copy of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species today! Have been hoping to find an old copy for ages so am very pleased.
