I found this a well written, well thought out novel that often gives a sense of the thoughts and concerns of the era. It's well imagined, and it bridges the space between John Donne's love poetry and religious writings ingeniously. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the era and Donne. Outside of those groups, I would recommend it to people who are sorting through the death of a loved one and going through the process of a long death. Novick treats it with great sympathy.

Tracy, it's a work of historical fiction and biography. In today's chapter, Donne regards the love poems as holy poems. This story definitely made England's seventeenth century come more alive and together. I, too, saw how Pegge, Bess, and Walton nursed Donne--the pigeon slippers cure and the proper washing procedure. I realized that Bess was with Ann More from before she married Donne, being with the family so far for two generations.
"Muse", the next book of the trilogy, is forthcoming. http://www.marynovik.com/pages/blog_0...
