Sydney Has anyone else noticed that ever time there is a series, since New Moon (Stephanie Meyer), every book that is second in a series the couple splits or is separated? Here are some examples:

New Moon (Twilight)
Torment (Fallen)
Cresendo (Hush, Hush)
Hades (Halo)
Beautiful Darkness (Beautiful Creatures)
Devoted (Elixir)
Intuition (Inescapable)
Vindicated (Branded)
Linger (Shiver)

See a pattern? Know any more books? What do you think of this? Have you noticed before? Post a comment and let me know what you think of the "2nd Book Plague"

Mary yep. i guess the second mortal instruments might count. and yeah authors really don't need to commit the "2nd Book Plague" cuz it just makes me wish i hadn't read the book.

Sydney I know. It makes me not want to really read the second. Sometimes it's so off, that I could skip the book, and I'd be okay.

Wren Nice.

Shruthi Why are u guys hating this book so much I love it so much

Nadosia Grey I am constantly subjected a recycled story line alike to that of Twilight, never mind the splitting of couples. There is always a young girl, who must choose between two males who have contrasting personalities. It's annoying. This splitting between Luce and Daniel basically continues throughout Passion as well. I'm sure Kate can write about something other than couples being split up or maybe she can't. Either way, I wish there would be fresh romantic ideas with themes other than separation.

Nadosia Grey Fallen wrote: "Yes, Twilight invented separation and romantic obstacles, in general. All of this began when you started paying attention to it. Great point."

Even if Twilight did not create it, it still doesn't deny the fact that most books after Twilight contain the same character structure dressed with a different plot and different people.

I'm simply stating that Fallen is just like every other YA fiction that is coming into existence. Two boys fight for one girl. One girl helplessly confused... It doesn't really matter who started it or what I "payed attention to first" because it's unoriginal in its nature. It may have a different plot and characters but the concept is still the same. It's boring, overused, and overrated. Nuff said.

Nadosia Grey Fallen wrote: "Apparently not, since you keep saying things about it.

Nothing is "original." Or maybe you have an example of a book with a wholly original premise and plot?

Everything exists within a genr..."

I keep saying things about it because you reply with seemingly useless comment about every criticism I hold with Fallen. All I want is a refreshing story that is not alike to about every other teen book available, but I guess that's not possible. Genre's have nothing to do with plot and character structure that is repetitively used without any care at all. It's a stylistic feature. I'm simply stating what you do not wish to hear.
