I liked only descriptions of the snow. in each chapter it falls differently. The rest was disappointing.
I consider this book a great book but with a minor criticism, for two reasons. There is a warning about religious fascism, which we now are witnessing as it gains power in most Middle Eastern countries, after unfinished revolutions. He is also talking about the existing military regime which is tyranical and fascist in nature. However, as wonderful as the book is, we see these two systems side-by-side but it only records events without offering any solution.
This leads to my second reason: In his introduction to "The New Life", he is referring to The Little Black Fish as "A book that changed my life" (which I have translated into English.)...I do not see the same dialectical approach in Snow and I wonder why?
This is one of my favorite books because of its characters and the underlying message of change in the Muslim world. Many in Muslim world can identify with Orhan's characters who want to have freedom of choice but deal with very complicated political and religious dynamics.
