When I think of technology, I think of complicated futuristic time machines and whatnot, but really technology is all around us. Computers, televisions, cell phones, and many other technological devices fill our lives. They almost control us in a way. We use them to keep track of our lives, which can result to relying on them for everything, and that isn’t healthy. I know I sound a bit hypocritical. I use lots and lots of technology, but I can see why it isn’t good. Although technology isn’t that healthy, it can be very helpful. There are a few things that I don’t think I could live without, but the most important is my cell phone. There are many reasons why I never leave the house without my cell phone. One, it’s a convenient way to communicate with friends, family, and other people in our lives. We can text message them, page, or just plain call them. Two, I carry my phone everywhere for safety reasons. If I go into a store and lose my parent, I can use my cell to call them and easily be saved. And it’s also just plain fun to have a cell phone. You can play games, listen to music, and texting is an easy way to have a conversation, without the awkwardness of a live phone call, where every silence has to be filled. Although cell phones are great, I know the hazards, too. If you come too attached to it, it can run your life. I believe that all people should take control of their own lives, and not let a piece of plastic control it. There’s also safety and abuse hazards. If someone bad gets your number, they can easily harass and just plain bother you. Also, people have way more confidence when talking to somebody over technology, and if they were mad at somebody, they could really hurt their feelings by saying things they never would face to face. I would never say something to someone if I couldn’t say it to them in person. It’s just not right. There are good and bad points to cell phones, but I tend to focus of the good. All in all, cell phones are a great device. You can talk to your friends, text them, and communicate to everyone else you know who has a cell phone. Even though I only covered the cell phone, there are many other technological devices that can and should be analyzed. You never know when technology can lead to terrible things. Technology isn’t the best thing for you, but in moderation it’s great.
