How do you feel about books going to movies? Are there any that you absolutely loved or loathed? Do you feel there is enough information and similarities transferred from the books to the film version?

Morgan Bertolino (atlantismagicsociety) I was extremely disappointed with the Hunger Games. I can understand a few missing details and such but there were so many I couldn't help but play the part of a critic. And The Lightning Theif. They completely changed the storyline!

I entirely agree. In Hunger Games it was like they just threw the ending on in a rush to finish. Not to mention just the missing details throughout the movie. I was highly disappointed. I think one of the worst books to film was Golden Compass staring Nicole Kidman...I had such high hopes and it was just horrible.

Autumn | 1 comments I was also disappointed with the Hunger Games movie, the book was so intense and emotionally driven in a way that just was not captured in the film. I felt it was a good movie and if I hadn't read the book I would have just been like "yeah that was pretty good" but having read the book, which was excellent the movie could have been amazing.

Also, I found the shaky camera work that was used so much especially in the beginning was really distracting and unnecessary. I understand that they were trying to give the impression of a "whirlwind effect" but it was counterproductive. All that really happened is the audience was left nauseated with headaches trying to interpret the blurs as all the wasted money spent on what I imagine were incredible costumes, makeup and sets in the capitol went zooming across the screen in indistinguishable blobs.

It is so disappointing when you see failed potential. I always go into these types of movies with such high hopes that they have at least slightly captured the essence of the novel. I find my self disappointed more often as Hollywood tries to add too many effects and delete important information or dialogue than focus on telling the actual story as it was written.

Amy Dukeshire (amydukeshire) I thought the Green Mile was well done. I haven't read the books in quite a few years now but I remember thinking the movie was so well done and even better than I imagined.

James (ghazlawl) I thought the Harry Potter books were pretty well done from book to screen. I still haven't read the Lord of the Rings books so I can't comment on that. Otherwise, pretty much every other book to screen movie I've seen has been terrible. I didn't mind The Golden Compass *too* much, but there were obvious parts where I was like, "No. Oh come on, no!" The Hunger Games adaptation was terrible! Absolutely terrible! I was torn between leaving and wanting to see how much worse it got. I watched Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter last night and I quite enjoyed it. It seemed a bit unbelievable at the end, though. If the movie was that interesting, I wonder how good the book is?

You know what? Indian in the Cupboard was the best adaptation I've ever seen. I saw it when I was a kid but I remember it being pretty spot on with the book.
