Not sure how much this'll be used, but hey! experimenting!

If you make music, cover songs, write lyrics, jam like a monster, generally just want to talk about the music and instruments you play for classes and for fun, share (or post) here!

Woop! Awesome topic is topic!

I'm learning how to play guitar. I suck.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I like to do covers... to karaoke tracks... using my iPod microphone... when I'm home alone... Haha. But I do want to learn a few songs on the piano that I can sing and play, because most of the songs I know are either without lyrics or written for baritones. Hopefully, I can post something here soon.

I guess I'll be the first one to let the bass drop, then.

That sounds like something my cousin would sing. (Compliment, I promise. XD)

I think you just made my life with that.

You're hilarious. And your voice is lovely. WHICH IS SAID IN A NONE CREEPY WAY, I SWEAR.

This is me singing Defying Gravity. Which I have posted before. BUT I'M POSTING IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT'S THE ONLY SONG I'VE RECORDED THAT I DON'T HATE. SO.

I'd like to introduce you to someone.

Me.

I'm a composer. I have been writing piano solos for five years now, though it has only been in the last year that I have produced work worth listening to. I will be putting up YouTube videos soon, but for now there is only an unofficial video for my latest song. Because I don't have the URL handy, search "Reunion -- Taylor Mefford" right now, enjoy, and leave nice comments.

In addition, in recent months, inspiration for full orchestral works has been coming to mind. My style is comparable to Patrick Doyle in the layered aspect of the music, though it has the more gentle, melodic feel of John Williams' pieces...and, of course, screams of amateurism because I am so new at it.

So...look up that video and then wait for me to post more. :)

My friend Brandt is in a remix competition and he's winning by five-ish votes. So if you'd go listen to his remix and vote for him, that'd be fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcCE4R...

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Ugh. I'm going to stab something. I recorded all three parts of The I Love You Song so I could edit them together and post them on here, but Audacity won't freaking play the files, no matter what I do with them.

It wasn't even that good, so I guess it's not much of a loss. Just two hours of work.

That was pretty darn awesome.
And Maxy, you could probably put them on a private youtube link.
I arrange and compose music, I've done a few covers with my friends. Here they are:

Alright. I'm posting something. I covered two Next to Normal songs with YouTube karaoke tracks and my iPod's voice memo app, and they turned out okay. My voice was kind of finicky on the day, which is why I was able to just hit the low note in Aftershocks but had more vibrato than usual. You might need to use headphones or turn up your volume. I was singing quietly because of the nature of the songs, and my iPod didn't want to pick up the sound.

Enough of that. This is called Aftershocks. I used this karaoke track.

And this one is called There's A World. Trigger warning, though: if you're suicidal or close to it, I would not recommend listening to this song. (My computer made a random dinging noise at the end. Sorry about that.) I used this lovely piano accompaniment.

message 21: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Maxy, are these tracks set to private? Because it's not allowing me to listen to them. D:

message 22: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 03, 2012 08:08PM) (new)

Oh. Yeah, they are. I'll fix that. XD

It might take a while. I have to re-upload them because they won't let me change the settings. Argh.

message 23: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
D: Okay. Thank you! I can't wait to hear them!

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait, I lied. I don't have to re-upload them. I was just being stupid. Give me like three minutes.

Ajakl;dfjalskdf I am a huge fan of your voice. It makes me very happy and now I kind of want to hug you but unfortunately you are in Utah. *tackles* Wow, I'm going to be listening to this a lot.

You inspired me to record a song and it turned out much less fabulous than yours, BUT I am going to upload it anyways because I still like the way most of it sounds.

Aah, thank you. Yeah, I love this song. I had to cut it off at the end because it gets all complicated and I can't sing five things at once but it fits my range which is nice and rare. I have an awful range. :P I'm trying to improve it so I can be in choir in college. Because choir.

I feel like sometime we should do a duet together or something if that could even work over the internet.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

You seem to have a nice range, though. That song goes fairly low, and you hit the high notes in Defying Gravity.

We should. Yes please.

message 33: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
It's decent... I guess I'm just really hard on my voice. I have a really low voice and /occasionally/ I can get high if I try really hard but I really just need to get it up a little higher. I mean, it probably doesn't really matter, but I miss being able to sing high. When my voice changed, I lost a lot of notes.

We need to brainstorm some duets that would be fun to do. Because that would make my life.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I understand. It can be rough. I used to be able to sing a high C, and now... nope. But the best you can do is just practice. Sing through all those awkward ranges until they stop feeling awkward. XD

There's always Maybe or Superboy and the Invisible Girl. We'd need a third person for the second one, though. Or just a person singing for two people. And I'm sure there are some other good duet songs that are slipping my mind. What Is This Feeling?

message 35: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
*nods* Yep, yep. I have an amazing music teacher so that helps a lot.

Ooh, I would love to do Superboy and the Invisible Girl. That song is lovely. Or something from Wicked or another musical. I'm doing What is This Feeling with Lexi for talent show. xD We're dressing up and staging it and it's going to be amazing. Because she's blonde and I'm a brunette and we live together. Hmm. I know there are other songs I just can't think of any.

:O Another song! This is me singing and playing the piano. The song is 24 by Emmy the Great and it's an absolutely gorgeous song and I'm obsessed with it so I learned it today. And it fits my range really well which was wonderful.

message 37: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments I can't tell if the sound quality is poor or if the piano is out of tune. You have a very nice voice, though. :)

message 38: by Elliott (last edited Dec 05, 2012 08:42PM) (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
I think it's the sound quality. I couldn't upload it in HD because it was taking years. Or maybe it's because my piano is over 100 years old, so it doesn't have the best sound sometimes. But it plays really well so I still love it.

Ooh I really liked it, Lav. Your voice is sooo cool.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

I have something to post!

So, while it isn't my favorite Barbie movie, this song is a lot of fun to sing. I like to harmonize with myself because I don't have a guy to sing duets with me because I'm a little conceited because it's fun.

It's called "Two Voices, One Song" and it's from Barbie and the Diamond Castle. The karaoke can be found here. I wanted to add the pretty descant that Melody sings to the last verse, so I changed it to "three voices" at the end. And I didn't really attempt to do different voices for Liana and Alexa. A few mistakes or off-pitch moments, but I'm still pretty satisfied with it. I'll stop talking now and give you the link.

Me singing a song that was not written for a guy.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)
