You don't exactly need a magnifying glass to pick out problems with society today. So just tell us:

What bothers you?

Does world hunger tug at your conscience? You want to brainstorm ways to help the environment? You don't like the way someone or something is treated?

This is a sharing place.

I'm wearing my serious expression right now.

Thus the lack of comedic GIFs.

Cody Cramer (codeshi) | 62 comments I have to agree with Ej on that one.

Cheyenne (cheylaraine) | 1882 comments Mod
Its true that I disagree with any sort of discrimination, EJ, and I do not wish to exclude anyone.

I also don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable.

But Marisa, if it doesn't make you feel uncomfortable for EJ to read what we write, I personally don't see what's so bad about letting him join. As for it being an invasion of privacy, I can't think of anything that we've posted thus far that was particularly private.

I'm not trying to bully anyone, I'm just expressing this: we're a group of friends. We want to get along. And if there's a need to create a compromise, somehow, Autumn and I can work together with you guys to figure it out.

I don't want anyone bullying anyone though. And THAT is serious. This place is to be fun. And fun only.

▕ ▋ ♛ ▍Marisa (vergeofinsanity) | 712 comments I would just like to say that I am in no way sexist and offline all of my friends are male, but what I have a problem with is that some people cannot seem to understand that girls just need "girl time" without guys adding their input. Why don't you make guys only topics so they have a place to have their own "Guy Time"?

EJ, do not feel ashamed. You were voicing your opinion, you were heard, and reacted to. Somebody's reaction to your honest reviews should not effect you so, it is to be expected that some people will agree with you, and others will not. That's the way it works.

Marisa, nobody is accusing you of bullying. Cheyla was merely stating that in the chance that the possibility of keeping guys out of certain threads may hurt somebody's feelings, and she didn't want that. Your idea is not being labeled as mean or rude, like I mentioned to EJ, you are just expressing your feelings. Nobody is thinking of you as being whiny for sharing your opinions on this, this is a no-judge zone where you can sincerely say what has been bugging you.

rollyflan | 3132 comments Mod
Alrighty, after some discussion in PM between Cheyla and I, we, the mods of this group, have come to our decision about this controversial case of a folder for only female participation:

The boys shall not be excluded from any folder, nor will any folders be created excluding girls. Commentary will not be discouraged or deleted just because somebody is male, female, etc.

This is our final decision, and while questions, comments, and complaints about it are most definitely allowed, we will not be changing it. This is a public group, we cannot prevent others from reading things posted on here, nor do we want to. This should just serve as a polite reminder that the internet is still the internet, once things are posted, there are no limitations on who will see it or how people will react.

So basically, nothing really changes. Everything in the group remains open to everybody. We're all family here. ;3

message 17: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Almost everything about this century bothers me... I am a very old fashioned type person. I'd prefer to have horses and carriages, grow all our own food, no telivision (which I believe is slowly making this world worse and worse), type writers and the beautiful dresses... I could go on and on! But this century is just horrible.
They humans are like the smartest things out there (I hope that's right... I think I heard someone say that once...), but honestly, we're extremely stupid (as a whole, not individualy.
What we think makes out world 'better' or 'more efficient' is just showing our laziness! Because of cars and computers and TV humans don't do that much anymore... Don't even get me started on fast food (Disgusting!)

Another thing that bothers me is money... Why can't we just trade things like they used to? It was so much simpler back then.

▕ ▋ ♛ ▍Marisa (vergeofinsanity) | 712 comments I CANNOT STAND STUPID PEOPLE. THEY CAUSE ME FRUSTRATION AND FRUSTRATION. CAUSES. ME. PHYSICAL. PAIN!!!

what I miss, really, is the way people used to have class. They used to show respect to each other.

message 21: by Cody (new)

Cody Cramer (codeshi) | 62 comments That class and respect is just pretension alot of the old days was pretension "Class" is defined by society just like pretty much everything else.

I do agree with some of that people did use to respect one another (never) if you truly look at it society hasn't really changed. it's just people can be more open and expressive now.

Cause back then if someone insulted you, well you could shoot them in a legal duel or stab them with a sword.

Nowadays you can't, so people back then had to show a mask(NGE Reference) of respect.

Far as money goes well you need it it sucks I hate working for it but it's the only way to keep the society that we have spent eons (exaggeration) building.

If it was trade it would dangerous people would say F this Sh** and start fighting over things. so what you are kinda saying is you don't like the 1st world umm err world.

3rd world countries and Amish communities have what you are looking for...

Sorry this is not an attack (at least not my intention)

If you don't believe me try to write a short story based solely on trade, yes technology does make us lazy and stupid but it has it's benefits too.

Ok I'm done someone take this keyboard away so I stop typing.

message 23: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (phoebus) | 679 comments Okay, I know how people always say that considered to the rest of the world we are all RICH. Which is true, but...

The value of an american dollar is different in those countries then it is here.

While a dollar is practically nothing to us, in those 3rd world countries it is worth at least ten times that.

What we need our weekly lives, they can use to last them a year(possibly?).

We have different economies, and different $ values. Even people without money here have it better then the people there do.

After that small rant, and I am not sure what my point was but... yeah...

P.S.

Please do support the cause of world hunger and all those poor 3rd world countries.

Though in the end, the real problem is their society and ecomony, and how NOT advanced it is or it business and international trade.

message 24: by Matthew (last edited Sep 28, 2012 10:22AM) (new)

Matthew (phoebus) | 679 comments So... what really bothers me is that what we are doing isn't necessarily the right place to help them. Though it can also be said, since we are a different country, it is simply not right for us to tell them people how run their country, and in the end is something they must strive for themselves.

message 25: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (phoebus) | 679 comments Er... I don't know, I'm just spouting nonsense here. n_n

message 26: by Cody (new)

Cody Cramer (codeshi) | 62 comments I know being here in America it's hard to forget that even though you are poor here it could be a lot worse.

I think rich people need to learn this, I'm not talking about millionaires either I'm talking about the Billionaires.

But getting back to the point everything we do in this country is ass backwards. but don't blame America for the world problems either or any 1st world countries for that matter.

Those 3rd world countries had the same opportunities as every other country their problems are either religion, their leaders or better yet the very society they were built on.

Should we Aid them? yes, but should they come before our own country? no.

Here is my reason, Say America and Mexico are people going to college,(brothers or sisters to not be sexist) and they are about the same age... (at least I think they are could be wrong)

yet one divulged in a massive drug addiction they had 13 major rebellions between 1870 - 1912 (Not fact but it's close to that) changing (Leaders) their own goals and dreams.

Like changing majors in college and never really finding what direction they wanted to take in life.

America had one goal, sure we change leaders but America never lost focus of it's goal (Rebelling once and only once) Changing majors once cause being part of Brittan wasn't cool, nothing against Brittan, just not our thang.

Yes America messes around with drugs but America isn't ruled by drugs.

if you understand the interpretation, congrats, if not I'll simplify.

Mexico - opportunities and promise, lost sight of goals couldn't make up mind, decided drugs were more important. Ruled by cartel, everyone knows it.

America- Opportunities and Promise, Kept sight of goals, messed around a bit, but got their sh** together and focused wrote goals down and persevered.

So the other 3rd world countries had the same opportunities at one point it's all up to a countries society to succeed.

hold on I think I got off topic... But you get the idea... I hope

message 27: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (phoebus) | 679 comments Yep.

Then some other countries have such a difference between the "upper class" and the "lower class", or the rich and the poor, and that is sort of what keeps most their country in poverty.

message 28: by Matthew (new)

Matthew (phoebus) | 679 comments ...

The whole world is pretty messed up for the most part, not just the "3rd world" countries. And it is getting worse with every passing decade, true there have been improvements, but all in all it seem as if society in itself is just getting worse. n_n

Which is why in the 1950s we were trying to go into space to start a new way of life for humans we are running (qucikly) out of space, resources and housing areas.

In the 50s they knew this hence why now the mars rover is a big deal we are looking for a way to preserve mankind. Earth won't last forever it will die, sadly.

So i guess to get back on topic it bothers me that nothing is forever xD

█║ ✕ Angel ‟ (sirsly) | 1 comments What bothers me? I think I'll just stick to how I feel right at the moment. Kids, Bullies, and the kids who won't stand up and speak. This generation is very - excuse my language - fucked up. One out of eight commit suicide, and not just because of the bullies. They quit because times got rough. I tried once, but it just bugs me that so many people don't step up and say enough.

Another point is my brother gets everything. The fame, the friends, he has the body, the sports and the support. I'm known as "Bradley's little sister." He gets everything, the world revolves around him and only him. He has to skip a game because of head damage and everyone is hugging him. He needs a television he gets mine. He needs money for dinner my mom makes me give him my allowence. He gets a C its not big deal, do better next time. He is my parents shinning trophy, and I'm the daughter with problems. And who could forget my little brother? Everyones cute little boy. I swear..

No use trying to compare yourself to others, Angel... in the end, all that matters is that you're happy with yourself. It sucks, though, that your parents seem to show favoritism, if that's what you're saying. I think that's really unfair. And in my house, the one they show favoritism for is me -_-

No need to apologize. Swearing is allowed, just don't overdo it.

"Oh, and about me being annoying, it is true sometimes...

But at other times it is just perspective, if you are in a bad mood, or you simply already in a mind set that someone is 'annoying' then they will be.

It doesn't matter if they truly are or aren't, heck they can be saying the most amazing thing ever, but because of you perspective you won't even bother to take in what they say and merely say "I don't care" or something of that sort.

Therefore, because of this, someone like Alec who hates will find ANYTHING no matter how normal or whatever it is, and will be annoyed by it, simply because it was you. It could very well be somethign they do themselves, or their friends do, but because YOU(or I in this instant) do it... it becomes annoying.

Yes, I admit I can be annoying sometimes, but most of the time I am just trying to tell you or someone something interesting I found out, or some cool thing they might not have heard about, or something I thought of while I was thinking(duh!) or some philosphical question I asked myself while I was bored in class.

Whatever I say, it doesn't matter, because people are already in a set mindset that I am weird, and therefore what I say is something that won't matter to them. I find that I could say anything, and they wills simply not process it and just ignore it or some other similiar response.

The biggest thing is this:
I could do ANYTHING at this school.

Say ANYTHING

Or whatever...

...and nobody would bother to take note of it, it doesn't matter, because I am already considered "wierd" and tossed aside for being different.

It doens't matter if I am the coolest person in the world. It really doesn't.

I think trading and money have equal problems... Money is good because of what you said, there might be lots of fights about the value, but you could make trades by something like weight (I think that is what the Mesopotamians did. They measured worth by the weight of an item)
But trading is good because there might be less "Poor" and "Rich" divide type thing... Maybe not though, things might stay the same.

I was more just trying to say my point of being Old Fashioned (I don't think I would like trading, money is simpler)

3rd world countries are countries stuck in poverty and ruled by dictators. Places where people earn less then 1$ a week(or nothing), and have barely any way of surviving. Some have to walk hours every day just to get water.

I understand the need to belong, but if the people aren't even trying to be fake-nice to you, try to find a different group.
LITERALLY! Just like go sit with a different group at lunch and start talking. You know that girl who sits alone. Go talk to her. You know that group of guys who seem to only talk in nerd. You probably understand what they're saying.
