Frankly I think that's not fair. He's using a story to entice readers to buy a Kindle? My guess that at some time it will come out in print form, but I still consider this a scam and SK should know better.
Yeah i have to agree this seems like selling out. I was actually thinking about the Kindle this weekend and realized I can never own one because I carry what i read around with me and need something that can get beat up and not break. if you spill water on a book, take a hairdryer to it and you're still pretty good to go.:)
I also have no interest in ever owning a Kindle. So if the only way you can read a book is on a Kindle I think the author is losing a whole audience.

I guess I'm not either, but the Kindle is a rather pricey item. You would have to read a lot of books on it to make it worth your while. So I plan to stick to paper.
I think part of the problem with the Kindle is that it is ridiculously expensive, and then you still have to pay $10 or so to buy the books to read on it. And for your investment (in the books) you can ONLY read them with the Kindle itself. What if it breaks? You spill your coffee on it? Your kid steps on the screen or your dog buries it? You just wasted EVERY PENNY you ever spent on the Kindle or the book downloads.
I just don't think it's worth it.
I agree with Becky. I need something tangible, not just a program on ONE device I could lose or break. I remember Beta and those Record looking things movies came on for a while. I don't have the spare money to invest in something that "may" catch on and have staying power. I'm too much of a cheapskate to not get something I can hold for my money! Even if it becomes obsolete, I can look at it that way.
Yes there is a new Kindle coming out the Kindle 2. It's on the Amazon web site. I actually like new technology, but a KIndle doesn't meet my needs. I like the paper, holding the book, admiring the cover, reading the blurbs. I think they cost around $300 (don't hold me on that I'm not really sure).In any case more $ then I would be willing to spend on something I don't know if I would use.

SQUEE! You are my favorite person of the day... possibly of the week, month, year! I've been pining for a Kindle and the ability to cary all of my favorite books around with me all the time (yep, I'm a total technophile), but it would not be... fiscally responsible... for me to buy one right now. (Dang it! Why can't I be obscenely wealthy?!) I've got an iPhone and tried some of the eReaders available for it but haven't been impressed with any of them- either their format is clunky or the book selections stink. I definitely have to give this a try.

Stacie, I love my iPhone too. I would have also switched if I hadn't been an AT&T customer. I love the Apps and keep running down my battery playing with it. I did buy the iPhone the Missing Manual and found more things I didn't know about the phone. I have downloaded the Kindle App but haven't used it yet.
The Kindle app also works on the iPod Touch.
This was the first thing I read on my Kindle device when I first got it :) The story's really original and great!
Back to topic, this will probably show up in print at some point. Does anyone remember the crazy tin-bound release of My Pretty Pony, complete with digital clock, that priced for like $1000?

So, those of you have read Ur, what did you think? I liked it, loved the Tower references of course! Alternate realities are fascinating to me, and this was a quick read. Overall, worth the $3!
