Christine Rice (christine_rice) | 26 comments I just joined this free association for freelancers called Freelancers Union. It has a lot of benefits and perks, but it is 100% free to join. And it seems better than the associations that you have to pay to join.

If you are a freelance writer, editor, or any other type of freelancer, you should check out and join this association.

Thank you for sharing, Christine. Looks interesting.

Christine Rice (christine_rice) | 26 comments Whoever joins the association can list them on their resume and LinkedIn profile. Employers like to see job candidates that are involved in groups/associations related to their line of work, so it would be a plus to add it to your resume.

Thanks for the tip Christine. I'll be following it up. I'm currently writing a freelance writing guide.

Christine Rice (christine_rice) | 26 comments I started it in January and finished it in August. I published it August 14th. It is about what one can expect during the first year of a freelance writing career. It is written in second person.

Freelance Writing Guide What to Expect in Your First Year as a Freelance Writer by Christine Rice

What is yours like?

Darlene Williams (darlene_williams) Skills you need, where the better gigs are found, what to avoid, basically a how-to avoiding pitfalls I made.

Darlene Williams (darlene_williams) You have some good reviews! Mine is basically a no-frill and fluff guide to what skils are required, where the better gigs are found, sites to avoid, avoiding the pitfalls I made.

Christine Rice (christine_rice) | 26 comments Thanks! Mine informs the reader of what being a freelance writer is like during the first year. The information is honest and not at all exaggerated. It is a realistic view of what one can expect, based on everything I experienced during my first year.

Since I had so much fun writing the book, I plan to write and publish a followup of what one can expect in their second year :) I also plan to write a self-publishing guide based on my experiences as a self-published author of four books.

Good luck with your freelance writing guide. Do you have a working title?

Not yet, Christine. Kind of struggling with that one.
