Yep just came home from first meeting and it sounds AMAZINGER than before.

What do you do? I'm kind of stuck in the middle of about six of them.

I do O.O. which is Original Oration or something like that. That simply means that I write a 5-10 minute speech and present it. I'm also thinking about doing Declamation, which is an event only novices can do (at least where I live). You just take a speech someone has already given and represent it. What are you thinking about doing?

Edit: I've done Storytelling and decided on HI and possibly Duo.

OO, Declamation (same here only 9-10th graders can do it), Extemp, Storytelling, or HI (Humorous Interpretation).

Extemp is you draw three current event topics and choose one and you have thirty minutes to write a speech.

Storytelling is you choose a kids book, not (Dr Seuss) and you'll memorize it and act like you are reading it to a little kid

HI is you memorize a small skit and you perform it with playing multiple parts in about the size of hula hoop.

Ooh, nice! I've heard about all but storytelling. I can't do Extemp. I'm quite a procrastinator at times, but not when it comes to papers. I had thought about HI, but for some reason, decided against it.

Think I'm doing Declamation with Ronald Reagan's 40th anniversary of D-Day Speech or Barbara Bush's Commencement Speech at some university.

That'll be good. Just out of curiosity, how long do Declamation speeches have to be?

I think up to 10 minutes. The captains suggest 6-10 minutes

Okay, thanks. I think they told us at the interest meeting, I just couldn't remember. Do you realize how NICE it is to talk to someone about this stuff and them NOT look at you like you're the world's biggest nerd or something. :)

What does NFL stand for?

National Forensics League. I like telling people that I've been drafted to the NFL (referring to Speech/Debate of course). They always get the funniest look on their face. :D

Nice... So it IS national then... I apparently don't participate in that one but I do participate in like CFL and some other one.

What does the "C" stand for (I'm supposed to know this)? And yes, it is national. Technically, I'm not a part of the NFL because I don't have enough membership points. But I'm going to get there...eventually.

I remember hearing about it now! Oh, and we have to somehow earn membership points or something by participating in tournaments to be considered part of the NFL. I don't know, maybe I heard it wrong, but that's what I gathered.

Don't know about NFL the sponsors haven't said anything about it. Have you been in forensics long?

Well, just in Speech and Debate since this year (I'm a freshman), but I've been doing public speaking for 4-H since 4th grade. I love it.

You people are in such weirdly named things :p

I know! Every time I mention something about it to somebody, they look at me like I'm a lunatic, and then of course, I get to EXPLAIN. :)

Um...I'm on the dance team and I'm (kind of) in the junior school play. I'm in the background ensemble. I also ran to be elected into out student council...I wasn't voted in xD

Eco Club!

Let's add Drama Club to my list. I'm trying out for the Fall play next semester and will hopefully somehow be involved in the musical (Even though I can't sing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Assistant Stage Manager or something like that.).

You guys are all so lucky to have awesome activities like that. I go to school in a little backwater small town that doesn't have the money or enough people to run cool programs. :( :(
