For the first book I chose Narcopolis by the author Jeet Thayil. This book hasn't received any awards but it has been both longlisted and shortlisted by the Man Booker Prize 2012.
From what I researched I found out that this book talks about how humans are able to approach the Id part of their brain through the addiction of drugs. This idea of the id and ego part of a persons mind piqued my interest, furthermore this idea also relates to the topic that is being taught in grade 12 English. Moreover this author is also known for the creativity and use of poetry in his works; poetry combined with the mysterious mind can open doors to the unknown and who knows maybe your worst nightmare, which is why I am confident about choosing this book.
