Trilogies are fine, especially considering some of the best science fiction are trilogies.

Well judging by the votes for American Gods I think that might be the novel winner. xD Anyway, I looked up the synopsis for American Gods and you have my vote! Checking it out from the library today.

Okko looks really good, I want to vote for that.
Also I wanna support Fullmoon O Sagashite (manga).
Nora, have you tried digital comics? I wouldn't think they would be limited by location. Try http://comixology.com
SO.. i'm not sure i'm getting it.. we can vote for as many as we like just not the ones we voted for in the first place??

Yes, you can recommend and vote for as many selections as you'd like. Any book that you recommend is already counted as a vote so there's no need to vote for your own recommendations twice. What we're basically doing is narrowing our options down to three, and then making the final pick with an official poll.

Whose vote? You recommended it and Andrea voted for it. That's one vote. Two, if you count the selection being on the list itself.
Guys, am I making this confusing?! If you all prefer, I could just throw all of your recommendations in the polls. I thought this method makes it easier to pick our reads by narrowing it down to three first. That way, we aren't bombarded with a long list of titles in the polls.

I vote for Sweet Tooth and D. Gray-man.@Kay I like your nomination system the way it is. It's pretty unique. I think that if you were to put every nomination into the poll, the same three books would end up with the most votes anyway.

Maybe you could put the part clarifying the rec/vote thing further up in your first post. So that everyone can see with one glimpse how it works. ("Recommend and vote for as many as you like. But: One person cannot rec and/or vote on the same book twice.") Or I don't know, actually it should be easy to see with the bold print, too.
I found it pretty straightforward. You can recommend as many books as you want, you can vote for as many books as you want, you just can't vote for your own recommendations because that would be voting for the same book twice.
I'm definitely voting for "American Gods" for novel and "Y: The Last Man" for graphic novel as these were going to be read by me in the near future anyway! This way I'll have people to discuss them with (hopefully :D )

For our new members and those unfamiliar with how the books are picked every month, here are the updated guidelines. There are 3 selections that we read every month as a group. One comic book, one manga, one novel. Of course, not everyone here reads manga or novels so the choice to either read one selection or all three is completely up to you. The three final selections are picked from polls based on all of your recommendations in our monthly thread. Of each poll, there are only 3 nominations. Nominations are picked according to popularity so only comments with the word "VOTE" is considered a vote towards that recommendation. This is to clear up any confusion and make it straightforward about what's considered a vote. In the case where two or more books are equally praised, I will simply pick the suggestion that was posted first (by date, and if necessary, time). Here are other rules:
1.) Do recommend as many books as you like as long as it falls under these genres:
- any comic book
- any manga
- books that fall under fantasy or science fiction. Further examples: apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, outer space, futuristic, steampunk, medieval, dark fantasy, magic, superheroes, zombies, vampires, goblins... basically, anything epic and/or imaginary.
2.) Do recommend a book more than once as long as it hasn't been a previous read of the month. A book can be renominated for the polls.
3.) Do be specific. Saying "any book by ______" won't be counted.
4.) Do vote for as many recs as you like. Of course, don't vote for the same thing twice. (Fyi, any book you recommend is counted as a vote.)
5.) Do change or remove your vote(s) as many times as you like before this thread closes.
6.) If we decide to do a theme for a particular month, only recs that follows that theme will be counted.
7.) Lastly, please link your books so we can easily look it up (unless your book isn't listed by Goodreads then that's understandable. Just make sure to name the author).
After votes are collected, the three most popular comic books, novels, and manga will enter the polls. The three polls are held during the last week of the month, and results will be announced on the first day of the following month. Both moderators and members may start discussion threads based on our reads of the month. We're always looking for volunteers for discussion leaders so inbox me if you're interested in leading a discussion for one of the reads of the month. When participating in a discussion, make sure you state your checkpoint or announce SPOILERS so you don't ruin it for your fellow members. I think I pretty much covered everything. If there's something you're still unclear about, feel free to ask us in this thread.
Have fun, my loves.
