A discussion thread for the short story collection Looking for Jake

It's been repeatedly hitting my snooze button but I blame that on my sleep-deprived state.

Best one so far is Reports of Certain Events in London.

I read this on a plane years ago for the Bas-Lag story about Jack Half-A-Prayer. I don't remember much else about it or why I gave it a 2.

Really, you guys didn't love this?

I'm not usually a big fan of short stories but I really enjoyed this. The ball-pit ghost story? Awesome! The urban flesh elemental thingy? Awesome! The Tain creatures exploding out of reflections? Awesome! The contagious word disease? Awesome!

Lots of great ideas - not all fully developed, but still excellent snapshots of CMs creative process.

I'm still reading, Up-In-The. I'll let you know when I finish.

I tend to select at random...currently reading "The Familiar".

So far I wouldn't fault Mieville's imagination.

The only story I didn't enjoy in this collection was the first, title story. I thought every other one was excellent, except for the comic book; though I still enjoyed seeing a comic in a prose story collection.
