Chanea looked out of her well-polished window. The sun was just beginning to rise, she quickly changed into her leather boots and denim jeans, slipping into a tank top, she pulled her brown leather jacket over her shoulders. She headed out the door and jogged to the meadow. She sat in the tall-ish grass, twirling a blade of the grass in between her fingers. She frowned, today was the day wasn't it...
Ryder walked along the meadow, carrying small weights. He took in a deep breath and held it as he balanced the weights on one hand to straighten his jeans and black t-shirt. "Happy Hunger Games!" he said, amused. He dropped the weights and sat down next to Chanea.
Chanea looked over at him, exhaling sharply. "Happy Hunger Games to you too," she said sarcastically. She tried to disguise the anticipation in her eyes with a smirk, so she arched her eyebrows too.
"And may the odds be ever in our favour!" he muttered, slumping back on the grass tiredly. He closed his eyes.
Chanea smiled at him, though his eyes were closed, maybe that was why she smiled. "I can't wait till this is over with," she said tiredly, so he wouldn't hear how amused she was.
"I think it'll be fun. You thinking of volunteering?" he asked without opening his eyes. He ran a hand through his hair, gold in the sunlight.
"My parents are making," Chanea explained. "If I could volunteer on my own it would be different, but it's like my parents want me to die." She couldn't help but look at his hair, he had better hair than she did. She had her hai back in a pony tail, with a few jet black locks framing her face, because they wouldn't stay back.
"My parents don't want me to go. I'm going to anyway" he said, opening his eyes and seeing Chanea staring at him. He raised an eyebrow.
Chanea looked away, feeling her cheeks warm slightly, knowing she was blushing slightly. She nodded, wishing she was in that position, in control of her life, but she wasn't. She looked back at him hoping her cheeks were their normal slightly tanned color. "Lucky," she commented. "My parents are 'making this day perfect'. I can't wait to see the look on your face when you see the dress I have to wear."
"I imagine it'll be some frothy monstrosity" he said, letting out a laugh. "I get to wear whatever I want. Maybe I'll go in Speedos" he said. He smiled, not commenting on her blush at all.
Chanea laughed a little. "I can't see that going over well, with the capitol I mean." she said with a grin. "Anyway, I would complain about any dress, so I'm biased. You might not think it's that bad."
"It might be, it might'nt be. You never know how these things turn out. Anyway, this is all about making a show, so I think the Capitol wouldn't mind me in Speedos, actually" he commented with a slight smile.
Chane rolled her eyes but was grinning. "So if I feel like punching a peacekeeper I can?" she asked though she knew it was more of a I'll act how I wanna act when her temper flared.
Ryder smirked. "I think that'd be taking it a bit far" he replied. "Anyway, don't those loser districts fight back? Are you secretly frokm District Twelve, loserville?" his tone was teasing and light as he closed his eyes again.
"You could try" he said as he stretched and stood up, folding his arms in a mock scary gesture. "Woo!" he said, waving his arms around. He continued to be scary -and doing a bad job of it- until he tripped over a tree root and fell flat on his face.
Chanea laughed and walked over to him, offering her hand to help him up. "Just don't do that in the games," she told him.
"Because someone could do this," Chanea replied. She dug her knee into the back of his knee until he had to kneel. She pushed him onto his chest, and pressed her knee into his spine.
"Very polite, attacking an innocent boy" he commented, relaxing and letting her. He lifted his head and blinked his pale grey eyes up at her. A faint smile danced around his lips.
"Hey, I was just showing you why you shouldn't act stupid in the games," Chanea replied. She smirked and her own grey eyes were bright with amusement and energy. "It's not like I hurt you..."
"But what if I want to be stupid? Maybe I can be stupid if I want to" he said in a snotty voice with a laugh. Then he stared straight at her. "Um...if it's not too much trouble...could you get off me?"
Chanea moved so he could get up. "Sorry. You could be stupid, but that would get you killed..." she said grimly "That would make the rest of your alliance weaker and they would all die." She tugged on her hair until it spilled out of it's pony tail and over her shoulders. She quickly separated it into three sections and twisted it back into a loose braid.
Ryder's smile faded. "It's...it's okay" he said, still looking at her. Then his grey gaze snapped away and he looked over the hills, hiding his expression. He ran a hand through his own hair, the gold shining as it fell over his face. He shrugged. "I...I'd better go. Reaping Day is tomorrow. Training to do!" He plastered a fake grin on his face.
Chanea frowned slightly but nodded. "Right. Uh, sorry again." she said. She flashed him a quick smile as she stretched for her three mile run. Once she was done stretching she began to jog over the hill.
Ryder fell back against the grass again, letting out a frustrated sigh. Why did she have to be a volunteer? Now only one of them would get out alive. He stood up and walked back to his house, dejected.
Chanea ignored the pain laced in her ribs, the cramp would go away eventually. She decided to only run a mile and a half to save energy for what was to come. She finished the first mile quickly and easily, like she had trained to do her whole life, then she pushed through the last half mile. She walked back to her house, she had a good ten minutes to run and think about her life. She wished he wouldn't volunteer, if she had to see him die she might actually break. She never really knew any of the other tributes who died, but Ryder was different. She walked back to her house, feeling the need to throw some stuff, throwing knives seemed like a good idea...
Ryder sat on his bed and poked at his pet cat without interest. He grunted, not paying attention to his father or sister when they came into his room.
Chanea went to the target in her houses back yard. She threw knives mercilessly, until the target looked like a loins porcupine.
Chanea sighed and leaned against the wall of her house. She should probably go inside and rest or something.((Do you want it to be the reaping day now?))
(Yes!) Ryder stared at his bright blue tuxedo with a dull look. He didn't like it very much, but apparently he had to stand out.
((Okay))Chanea stared at the dress. It was pretty, but she absolutely hated it. She frowned wishing she could wear her usual jeans and a t-shirt instead. She decided she would try to wear her leather jacket over it, shorts under it, and maybe her mom would let her wear a tank top under it, maybe if it had lace...
Ryder finally put on the tux and made his way to the reaping ceremony. It was very glamourous in D2, because they were a rich district. He glared at his parents as they cast worried looks towards him and shook their heads.
Chanea quickly changed into the dress, hating how the top was strapless, gold, and shimmery. She also hated his ruffley the bottom was. She tried not to yelp as her mom twisted her hair into a pretty but loose hair do. Her family made their way to the reaping, they kept telling her how to volunteer. Then they had to leave her, she ignored their pressuring stares as she stood waiting.
Ryder looked at Chanea and whistled loud enough for her to hear. He gave her the thumbs up and continued into a crowd of boys as dressed up as he was. His hair fluffed into it's normal emo-style, he couldn't even be bothered fixing it anymore.
Chanea smiled at Ryder. Then she looked around at the girls around her, some dressed more flamboyantly some a bit simpler. She touched her hair, wishing she could just put it into a braid.
Ryder stared as the lady picked out a name, shouting it quickly. Ryder lifted his hand. "I volunteer as tribute!" he said, brushing his hair out of his face. The lady's smile was bright. "How wonderful!" she said, pleased. She reached for the girls bowl.
The lady pulled out a name. As soon as she finished reading it she raised her hand and said "I volunteer as tribute!" She smiled slightly, she liked how all the other girls who were going to volunteer were so frustrated. She made her way ip to the stage, having to shove some unhappy girls a little. She waited for the lady to ask for her name.
Ryder stood next to Chanea with a faint smile spread across his face. He pushed his hands inside his pockets and leaned against the backboard of the stage.
"And what is your name?" the lady asked Chanea."Chanea Rombler," she told her, looking out at the rest of her district, smirking.
Ryder ignored the lady. He still felt unsettled about them both entering the games. What if they had to compete as the last two? But he wasn't going to back down, and neither was she. He grunted.
Soon the reaping was over, and they were being lead away to say their goodbyes before they had to go. Chanea looked at Ryder as she walked. Then the room for her to say bye to all of her other friends and family was opened, she was ushered in. "See ya' later," she told Ruder before disappearing into the room.
"Yeah, whatever" he muttered, telling the Peacekeepers he didn't want to see his family. He was led onto the train and poured himself a glass of alcohol. He drank it in one go and promptly fell asleep on the couch.
Chanea said goodbye to her family and friends. She was escorted to the train, where she immediately shut herself into her room. She sat on the floor, with a thick blanket over her head. She waited for tears to come but only a single one spilled onto her cheek, it rolled down into her lap. She wondered if she could suffocate herself withthe blanket, but she wanted fresh air too much. She crawled to her bathroom and turned on cold water, letting it run over her face, after she dried her face in her blanket, she stood up and walked back to the main eating sitting car area thing.
Ryder opened his eyes blearily to see Chanea. "Hey there" he said with a faint smile as he noticed he had dropped his glass on the floor. He picked it up and placed it gently on the table.
Chanea smiled at Ryder and walked over to sit on the floor next to the couch. She looked at the glass suspiciously. "What were you drinking?" she asked.
"Some Godforsaken poison" he groaned as he pushed his hair back from his face, making it stick up somewhat adorably. He blinked a few times and held onto an arm of the couch as he felt vertigo grip him, and tried not to throw up on the floor.
