Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments I will be building up some bio info on China soon, but members, please feel free to post bio info and trivia as you desire.

message 2: by Magdelanye (new)

Magdelanye | 174 comments you all have seen his website, yes,no?
and his bio stuff on gr
my burning question is, does he know about US?

message 3: by Clouds (new)

Clouds (cloudsreads) Can we get really creepy/stalker with his bio info?

What primary school did he attend?
Who was the first girl he kissed?
How old was he when he first got inked?
Etc...

Yes, i have linked to it in Mieville online. All in good time, Delanye, all in good time..

Um, Clouds, go for it.. i am not that, erm.. seriously into Mieville, though we created this group for people who are. Just see me as one of the admin persons in the background, and go ahead and have fun. ;D

With bio, i had more meant in regard to his writing, but.. *waves Clouds on to divulge all of the personal info if he so wishes.*

Clouds (cloudsreads) I'm not, by nature, a creepy/stalker type - but I fully acknowledge the need for any fan club to have at least one.

So consider me wearing that hat, on a temporary basis - just to air it out like - until a true creepy/stalker type joins our ranks to reclaim it.

Clouds I think you are too nice a person to be our token creepy stalker ;)

oh shit, even the stuff where we're all going on how hot he is?

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments We were talking earlier on in 2012 of doing an author interview with him.

But i'd prefer to shelve that for later in 2013. I feel we have to get more meat on the bones here first, Andrea, and by then all the panting might have been buried underneath all the other stuff. Besides, i've never seen a man who did not feel flattered to find out he has been the object of secret droolings. :D

As long as it's not stalker-ish, but that's not exactly what we've been doing.

Just sighing and drooling, right?

Andrea still a bit embarrassing, but ya
I showed the pics to my husband, he agrees China is hot lol

message 10: by knig (new)

knig This guy is beyond hot: I am duly drooling. Not only that, but an Oxford graduate, a world traveller, a university lecturer and a fantastic writer. Having made it from the rough part of town. Bad boy makes good sort of thing. I mean you couldn't make it up: the ultimate bodice ripper hero. Lets not forget his name: China sounds so exotic too. OK, have I drooled enough?

message 11: by knig (new)

knig I've just had an innocent thought here: how about I go up to Warwick in 2013 seeing as I'm local, and let him know traveller would like to inteview him online (seeing a Traveller is the moderator). I mean a personal notification wouild be way better than an email, right, right, right? :)

Could you actually do that? Wow. ;) You could be our ambassador. ;D
I was thinking, that if we build this group a bit more, do a few more features (Which i'll work on in the next few months), he might just be impressed enough with all of this adulation and exposure we are giving him to be inclined to say hi to us in an interview.

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Ok, let me at least post the Wikipedia bit on CM's educational background:

Miéville was educated at Oakham School, a co-educational independent school in the historic market town of Oakham in Rutland, for two years. When he was eighteen, in 1990, he lived in Egypt teaching English for a year, where he developed an interest in Arab culture and Middle Eastern politics.

Miéville studied for a BA degree in social anthropology at Clare College, Cambridge, graduating in 1994, and achieved both a Masters' degree and PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics in 2001. Miéville has also held a Frank Knox fellowship at Harvard University.[1]

A book version of his PhD thesis, titled Between Equal Rights: A Marxist Theory of International Law, was published in the United Kingdom in 2005 by Brill in their "Historical Materialism" series, and in the United States in 2006 by Haymarket Books.

I gather that this is where CM earned his Masters and PhD: http://www2.lse.ac.uk/home.aspx

Magdelanye | 174 comments very interesting to read this thread
burning question:Trav did you move pazt your initial ambivience? or is that the. reason you havent set up that interview?

message 15: by Traveller (new)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments Hi Magdelanye! Long time no see! Nice to see you again. :)
I probably have moved to some extent beyond it but i suppose my opinion and feelings towards CM is now a lot more complex than it had been in those early days.

I think we should read Kraken in November and then we are set for a CM interview. Once i had read every single one of his novels, i will feel comfortable with doing an interview. :)

message 16: by Magdelanye (new)

Magdelanye | 174 comments Oh nice to hear from you Traveller
thanks for quick response

Kraken in November eh
sounds a bit bleak but doable
It seems a long time since he has come out with something new....

In the meantime, have you read any Hoban yet?
Russell Hoban

also
Engine Summer by crowley

Motherless Brooklyn !!!! by J Lethem
] Jonathan Lethem

and this wild wild ride of a book,The Fall Revolution

forgive me if I am repeating myself but I have a hunch you will cherish these.

Re the interview, can it be set up a la gr style with everyone able to ask questions? or shall we all just meet at the pub,and share the love :>)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 1850 comments I don't know yet, Magdelanye, I'll have to do some work on checking it out before i can give you definitive answers.

Thanks for the recs, will look into them. :)

Saski (sissah) | 267 comments I can't say anything about the others, but I loved Motherless Brooklyn!
