Discussion thread for the short story Covehithe

The big thing that bugged me about this is the lack of science.

I love the idea. I liked the short story format because I'm more of a grazer (in recognition of fellow Mievillians' sensibilities I am not continuing into the comparative) so reading the story didn't consume my least available resource.

The reproduction method was cool, but....again, lack of explanation. It starts to read as a statement on resource rape and consequences, almost tipping into 'hey look at my research capabilities' in referencing actual occurrences.

For the idea: 10/10. The execution was less inspiring. Perhaps it would have worked better in a novella format, allowing time to delve further into the science aspect. But definitely to be recommended for a read.
