I got stuck in traffic for a half hour trying to get there! But my book was awesome so I'll mention it here. I read Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi. It was really good!

It's set in the future and oil is even more valuable than it is now. Ship-breakers scavenge scrap metal from old ships. The main character stumbles upon a scavenge haul that could set him up for life, but has to choose between making off with the goods or saving a girl's life.

It's crazy violent. It's got the violence of Hunger Games although sometimes without the moral reflection that you get from Catniss. For example, there's one point where the 14 year-old main character is about to murder some bad guy in her sleep.

Anyway, the characters are awesome, the story is good, the villain is creepy. All-in-all, good book.
