JazzyCat (dayandnightgirl) *MADE SURE I DIDN'T ADD SPOILERS

Bel Canto- Basically, there's a huge birthday party for a rich man who loves opera, and an amazing opera singer even shows up. The president of the host country plans on coming, but changes his mind hours before the party starts because his favorite TV show is on, and he doesn't want to miss it. Anyways, near the end of the party, some terrorists show up, planning to kidnap the president. They realize he's not there, and are stuck with 50 or so hostages. They make all the women leave except Roxane Coss, the opera singer, and have to decide what to do with them. The thing that makes this book so amazing is the way the relationships change between the terrorists and hostages. Friendship, family, and love happen. It's amazing and heart-wrenching.

I've got to go to bed, so I'll post the others later ok!

Giulia I love the usuals:
The Hunger Games Trilogy
The Inheritance Cycle
The Harry Potter Series

and some extras such as Lady Macbeth's Daughter by Lisa Klein, the Graceling Realm by Kristin Cashore, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobosky, erm the Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman (a bit older), Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran (a great historical fiction author), The Host by Stephanie Meyer and Dark Reflections by Kai Meyer. (<-- this was amazing! Too bad it's so unknown).

Giulia Oh wow. Thanks for the genuine interest!
Well, I don't want to go into details, but since I'm that kind of person, I will! :3 Forgive me!

Lady Macbeth's Daughter
I studied this play for two years so I read it. OH MY GOD. It is so epic, the characters so well thought out (a good feminist read for all of you feminists out there) and the fictional guy just makes me *squeal*!

Graceling Realm
Graceling, the first book, is about a land where some people are born with different coloured eyes. These people have 'graces' which can vary. Some have the grace of perfect memory, or swimming, or fighting. Our main character, Katsa, a green and blue eyed tomboy graceling does her cousin, King of the Middluns' dirty work for him (eg disposing of enemies). She hates it but then meets Prince Greenling of Leinid, or Po, who is another graceling; silver and gold eyed. Together, they embark on an adventure taking them far away in the corner of the kingdom.
Fire is a companion novel, about a 'monster' of the Dells. They are actually unearthly beautiful creatures who make people scared or lustful after them. Fire is a monster, the daughter of an actual monster monster, Cansrel who was evil, enjoying sadistic activities. She always minded her own business but the kingdom is in danger and she's ready to save it.
Bitterblue is the sequel to Graceling and the companion to Fire.
They are all jaw-droppingly, utterly-gobsmacking, epiphany-having epic novels. I recommend!

Perks
Kind of like Catcher in the Rye. Heart-warming, coming-of-age story. Modern Classic. Into a movie now!

The Dovekeeprs
This is an adult book by Alice Hoffman about four women and the events surrounding Masada, a Jewish stronghold against the Romans in 1CE. Super feminist but SUPER SUPER SUPER AMAZINGLY GOOD.

Hawksong
Short fantasy story. So beautifully written. I recommend.

Cleopatra's Daughter
Follow Cleopatra Selene, the daughter of the famous Queen Cleopatra as she's taken to Rome as a prisoner. She becomes a young woman amongst the most turbulent years of the empire.

Dark Reflections
NO ONE KNOWS THIS EPIC MASTERPIECE! I read the 3-in-1 volume so it was a bit thick but never ever have I ever read such an original book. It was so unbelievably 'is this for real?' and...there are no words. I recommend for EVERYONE!

Giulia Tangled Tides sounds really cool (it's now on my to-read list). Your friend wrote that? That's even awesomer.

message 6: by Giulia (new)

Giulia That's really amazing! Now I'm really excited to get my hands on a copy!

message 7: by Giulia (new)

Giulia I completely understand. I have a few unfinished ones. I don't know about the word count but page-wise, my largest is at 350 (roughly). That might be 200,000 words 0.0 but it's nowhere near finished or good AT ALL so that's never seeing the light. My newest one is much better but it's more for me to write than for others to read (but I guess there's that little lingering thing in me saying 'Why don't you just try publishing it?' doesn't everyone get that feeling?)

message 8: by Giulia (new)

Giulia No probs at all. Word of mouth is always the best way.

message 9: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Yeah, but it's really childish. I started it when I was 12 so you can imagine it's not THAT developed. It's just a lingering thought you know. I highly doubt I could possibly do anything of the sort but thanks so much for offering! I should probably leave you in peace to read now. We're kinda clogging up the thread. XD

message 10: by Giulia (new)

Giulia Aw, thanks. I don't really like spam personally as I'm slightly OCD-ish so we'll just continue this in the next thread. I'm 15 btw.
