I am currently working on the sequel to my first book, The Scent of God. This, like yours deals with the death of a daughter. Francesca died in 2001. Her death is still unresolved. I have vacillated between fiction and memoir but feel strongly that memoir is the way to take this book so that I can deal with the issues that led to her death.Having wrestled with what genre, I'd be grateful if you would share the reasons that you chose to write in fiction?
I chose to write fiction so that if I needed, I could move away from the sadness of my lost. I used several things in the book that was part of her. Her name as a character, the tatto on the angels. And I worked in several of her "sayings". Now to be honest. I did not want to write about my pain or hers. I just wanted to think about her and keep her alive in my memory.
None of what I just said makes any sence, but then the death of a child does not either.
