I am so not into fantasy these days. I've been unsure about this one since it's the third in a series - do I have to read the first two just to get to this one?!!!

It had been a while since Graceling and I thought it stood alone well. There were fewer fantasy elements, more about dealing with reconstruction and with the lingering aftermath of war.
I thought this was the most literary of the three books, and it stands alone. My main concern was: will younger readers fully understand what types of torture were inflicted on Leck's juvenile victims? That was truly horrifying to me. Will the rape & torture go over the heads of younger readers? (I hope so!)
