Can it be this man, politician from Nebraska? The accent would be about right.
Interesting chapter, full of more foreshadowing. Ahab is crazier and crazier, and Stubb is worried.

No problem...
I'm just listening this week while I'm finishing up an editing job. Don't have enough brain space to think about things. How's your back?

Here's the New York History blog's post on this chapter:

Back and neck are still giving me fits. Sigh. But plodding along.

So we learn a little more about Ahab here. Interesting that he does show some bit of humanity when, at night, he resists the urge to walk the deck and wake up his men.
Not sure about the bit between Stubb and Ahab. It does raise at least one question about Ahab's visits to the old but not much else. Not sure what I think about it all other than it is raising questions.

I am confused here for two reasons: one, I was in the understanding that Stubb and the other mates were familiar with Ahab and his character, so why is he wondering about his treatment by Ahab?; two, how did Ishmael hear this to record it? it seemed to follow more of the language of self-talk rather than something said aloud...it is the loss of perspective I find confusing. I wonder what purpose it serves beyond providing an alternate one? I do not care for this chapter.
