Have just discovered a couple of books that are out this month which I'm VERY excited about....

This Book Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don’t Touch It
This Book Is Full of Spiders Seriously, Dude, Don’t Touch It (John Dies at the End #2) by David Wong
SQUEEEEE! Part 2 of John Dies at the End is out! Sadly, it's not available in e-book yet, at least not in Australia. I may have to invest in hardcopies of both :)

The Twelve
The Twelve (The Passage, #2) by Justin Cronin
The sequel to The Passage is also out. I'm excited but very, very wary. I really don't like it when authors plan these things as trilogies. Almost invariably the second book is poorly resolved and just not as good as either part one or three. I really think that if you buy a book, it should be able to stand on its own merits, even if it is a continuation of a story. Has anyone read it or heard anything about it yet?

Riona (rionafaith) | 457 comments Totally stoked about This Book Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don’t Touch It. I'm already on the hold list at my library.

I think you know how I felt about The Passage, so I'd rather be ripped apart by a herd of mutant vampires and then have salt poured in the wounds than read The Twelve.

Hehe - I was actually waiting for that! I have bought a copy of "This Book Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don’t Touch It", but just realised I didn't update the delivery address, so I'll have to get it forwarded to me along with my copy of High-Rise. Sigh. Nothing's ever simple!

I know what you mean, Mark.

I know technically this isn't an October release, since it came out in late September, but I've just found out about At the Mouth of the River of Bees: Stories. Last night I was updating the "obscure short stories" shelf, and was reminded of the fantastic short story Ponies by Kij Johnson. So I'm pretty excited to see a short story collection by this writer. t's her first, despite having had many short stories published over the years. The reviews look good too.
