I prefer the original Star Trek. I think Capt. Kirk could beat up Jean-Luc, Hans Solo and Luke Skywalker.
I love both. I grew up watching the original series as reruns and then Next Gen with my dad. And Star Wars was a given as well. I had A New Hope on VHS when I was 7, which is how I first saw it because my mom recorded it for me. What I never knew though was that the recording had cut off at the part where they all got caught in the trash compactor, and I thought that's where the movie ended for about a year. I must have watched it twenty to thirty times, hoping it would turn out differently eventually. Until one day I mentioned the disappointing ending to my dad and he rectified the situation immediately, ha ha. ;)
The original three Star Wars movies beat anything else by a country mile. Unfortunately Lucas can't leave the fuckin' things alone.
It's like when you make roast lamb for dinner for just yourself and it's truly incredible so then you invite your entire family around to your house a few weeks later to try this meal but you've added a few extra herbs or something to it. It's good but it's not how you remember it.
Everyone feels completely let down that it wasn't as you've described it or a similar dish they've had in the past and your mother calls your conception and allowance to go full term a mistake while your father and step-father nod in silent agreement.*
*This did not happen. She just punched me in the face.
I agree that Lucas has engaged in far too much revision on those original three films. I mean, now Greedo shot first? Really? I just sold my VHS copies of the films and have been kicking myself because Lucas will probably never allow the actual, original, unedited films to be released again.Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi kick Star Trek's butt. Any Star Trek anything is better than the new Star Wars films. Does that make it a draw?
Rock wrote: "That must of literally given you a New Hope."Indeed! And after that it blew my mind, ha ha. That just proves you should never let your anti-science fiction mother record one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time for you. :(
Now I see that Lucas has sold the rights to the franchise to Disney who intend on making a new Star Wars movie every few years.Christ on a fuckin' bike....

Nice! Thanks for the tip! Two thumbs up to Adywan, though Disney may throw a wrench in those works now that they've purchased Lucasfilm.Further research reveals the 2008 releases contained both the original theatrical releases as well as the (in my opinion) craptastic Lucasian remakes. They're expensive but at least they're out there.
In the horror of horrors department, just saw the altered Jabba throne room scene with that wretched "Jedi Rocks" song and am soliciting ideas on how to unsee/unhear it. *shudder*
OMG, Star Wars (the original three, God I hate Ja Ja Binks!!!!) I only watched the other two because it was Star Wars but when they said they were coming out in 3D I told myself I would rather take a bullet in the leg than watch Ja Ja Binks in 3D!!

Or at least his toupee could.
Or at least his toupee could.
Who do you think would win in a fight between Leia and Kirk's toupee?---

Oh come on! That is one of the most awesome tv show openings of all-time. Up there with the Twilight Zone, the Love Boat and 3's company
For memorable theme songs, I nominate Rockford Files (Mike Post!) and that badass Sanford & Son song, never mind Fat Albert. And The Munsters. And... Hawaii 5 0.

I like Star Trek just because of all of the weird soundtrack noises, like when those sliding doors to the bridge open and the little 'pings' and 'pongs' that various equipment make. That's all very soothing.
What I like about Star Trek, the original series, the early episodes is that they are all about the imagination. The sets and graphics, the sound effects, etc are all scaled down and pretty basic. The affect of this (whether intented or now) is that the viewer can fill in the blanks with their imagination. The concepts and the plots thereby become the driving force of the show - not the graphics and the special effects...
I love them both for different reasons. Although, in Star Wars- original is the way to go (especially since it has The Empire Strikes Back which is my hubby's fav movie- or at least one of them) and with Star Trek, I have to admit I'm a New Generation (series) fan and prefer it to the older shows on TV, but the Star Trek movies... I am an equal opportunity Star Trek movie fan.But... not that this is part of the question, if you asked Star Wars, Star Trek, or StarGate.... now Stargate might be the series winner in my book, because my husband and I both eat that sh&t up. Indeed (Daniel Jackson)

Star wars has darth vader and a light sabers. Star trek has Dr. Spock and skantily clad aliens who fall in love with one look at William Shatner.
Never seen them? Not even the newer Star Wars (prequel) Episodes 1-3? But... but... it's INCONCEIVABLE! It should be like, required 'watching'...I can understand those that didn't watch Star Trek, but generally you still know of it. Or, am I just getting old and William Shatner is just the 'Priceline' guy to everyone now?

I don't like the genre. If by any chances I happened to see them because my dad watched them on TV, I was like 6yo and I don't remember a damn thing.
I have a picture of myself at around 4 (ish) years old wearing a bright red and yellow (what was up with those 70's colors) star wars (original episode 4) shirt. I grew up on SciFi, Horror, and Fantasy. I even had a scarf I considered to be my 'Dr. Who' scarf in like 3rd grade (maybe it was 4th)
Doh! Good point! Why didn't I think of that?
