Like many other readers, I have numerous books that I absolutely love, and have therefore kept on my bookshelf. I even have a lot of book series that I've held onto. Mark of the DemonThe Spellman Files. However, as I look at them sitting on my bookshelves, I have to wonder if I'll really ever read them again. Sure, there are the odd few that I will most likely read many times over; but the series? I don't really see myself reading them again, as there are so many books I haven't read that I'd like to get to. So why keep them?
Why do we all hold onto our books?

I really don't know... I've got over 400 books, most are neatly stored away in my basement and I have 2 bookcases in my house (I desperately need more space)...
But everytime I look at them the thought of getting rid of them sends shiffers down my spine. I can't stand the thought of what might happen to them. I've cried and laughed with them, some remind me of my past or touched my heart in a way that I dreamed about being like the characters... Some have changed the way I look at things, or have inspired me to do better...I feel it's a part of me, like music. Rereading I only do with a few - the ones I keep on my shelves. The most treasured ones...
So for me it's emotional, I guess :)
And besides, the writers did a fair job of writing the stories that have moved me. It just doesn't seem fair to get rid of them...
Does that make sense?

I keep my books b/c I like to reread them while waiting for new ones to come in. Plus I want to have a study/library in my home.
I'm with Christina. I hold onto my books because to me they are my own personal library. I don't really have any friends or family around that reads the books that I do. And I frankly enjoy keeping what I enjoy reading around me on hand. To have available when I do want to read it again or take with me on a trip. I also love having and keeping tons of books(less than most I'm sure) because honestly buying books were my first independent purchase that I made on my own without the aid of my parents. So from there on I see buying my own books, for my own room and space as a sign of financial independence in a way. And in general I don't do the whole fashion thing. And splurge on shoes or hand bags. Books and PC games are my splurge purchases and wouldn't have it any other way. I think though once I get older and have a few kids. Pending on their tastes and what not. I think I will leave my books to them in my will. Let them learn about a different world or two. So there is another reason. My books are my assets to be shared with future generations. :)
my books are like parts of me even the ones I hated or the one that made me cry touching the covers and the papers .... it make sense to get rid of the books u will never read again but they are part of me
I simply can't do it .. I can't let go, when I lose a book , it simply break my heart :S
I'll say it's silly but it's a true story :D

I only keep books that I know I will re-read. I have every VC Andrews book out there and I really enjoyed this Succubus Series.
Because they document who we are and how we came to be... so far :)
