http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/a...

I just had to read this article for English.
I agree on one level, but on another, I disagree.

Same here. I mean, sure, it's helpful, but we aren't thinking for ourselves any more.

While it does dumb down things, if you're the right kind of person, it can be very helpful.

Yeah, that's what I was meaning (Do you mind if I steal some of these topics?).

Laszlo (steampunk) | 1100 comments Google is not making us stupid. We get smarter by obtaining information, and Google does that.

I agree with you. However, when you're doing homework, are you going to want to ACTUALLY form your own opinion or write your own paper or just look something up on Google? It's so much easier to do it that way, even though buying a paper off of a random website is wrong. I know that I'm guilty of looking answers up simply because I hadn't found it in the textbook.

Laszlo (steampunk) | 1100 comments You will have to read it or else you might think you are turning in an article about agriculture that is actually about cute kittens.

Google is making us lazy, not stupid exactly. We (I mean we, bookaholics) too dig in the results from Google more often than pick up an encyclopedia. If stupid, why are we smart? Why are we hungry for information?

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I personally find it difficult to find an encyclopedia which they moved at my library and I'm not that comfortable at my school library yet to get one there. So I must resort to yahoo. (I despise google)

Ooh, thanks!

Google ends up being slow and searching when I do not want it. Hence, why I do not like it

message 17: by Allison (new)

Allison I like Google, but when used the wrong way, you're not learning anything.

Don't cheat on your homework. Actually do your homework with your brain.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think it's making us stupider per se, but I think it's limiting us in terms of our ability to problem-solve and ask questions - for instance, when we don't know something, instead of thinking through it and getting people's opinions, we often just Google it because it's less effort.

νєяαℓι∂αιиє | 2197 comments I don't think so because Google has been around for hundreds of years! ;)
