What was your first impressions of the main characters of this book?

I myself am trying to get used to them. There are a lot of things about how Gemma "didn't feel anything" before and no one thought that was a little strange? And right now I am wondering why her "grandparents" (Which I suspect are not really her grandparents) hate her and treat her like a lepper.

What are your thoughts??
