Welcome Lisa. It's a fun crazy place here. Lots to talk about. I love Portland. I drive a transport truck through there every few weeks. Powell's bookstore is incredible.
Are you aware of the spirituality involved with Yoga? AS well as the abuse to your muscles? You should carefully research this.
Hey Rod, It's nice to meet you. In answer to your question, yes I do know about yoga's history and spiritual history. I'm sure that you and I could have some very interesting conversations about it. I am a little disturbed by your idea that muscle abuse can happen in yoga. I've never heard of that. There are always, always safety comes first. If it hurts, do not do it, even yoga philsophy frowns on causing pain or harm. It's called Ahimsa or non-violence, causing damage to muscles is violence. I'm curious were you learned that. Anyway, thanks for the welcome, I'm excited to be here. Happy Reading
I just listened to a Podcast on Yoga by "Stuff You Should Know".Generally beginner yoga doesn't seem too dangerous to your system. But have a look at the hours that Yoga masters meditate and hold one specific position (some masters can barely walk in later life). They also said it is a very poor way to lose weight.
But I have no interest in yoga. So its all just second hand info for me. But any spirituality outside of Jesus concerns me.
So tell us what you know. I'm fascinated. :D
(My only sport is watching Nascar racing. And occasionally lifting weights.)
Can you race people and crash them? Do they explode? Sometimes.I too love watching people at Starbucks. Fascinating.

I so agree. So much stuff out now to ensnare us.

Ha! I wonder if God sits up there watching us like some people watch Nascar? I imagine he finds us quite entertaining at times. :)
Hey all, just joined the group. Still learning my way around Goodreads, getting my bearings. I do have one question -- are there any of you in here who do beta reading? I have a Christian novel I'd very much like to receive some critical feedback on.
Thanks,
John
John, I wonder if you'd be willing to make a deal. I have a couple books on amazon right how. If you would be willing to read either one and then post a review that would be awesome. In the meantime, I would be delighted to read your book and offer any constructive critique I can. They are listed on my author page here, or search "the hidden life" and my name on amazon to find my author page there. My books are available as ebooks for just a couple dollars. If you can afford tha it adds some credibility to the review. If not I'd be happy to send you a free coy. Let me know.
Hi I just joined this group. I write Christian Fiction Suspense/Thrillers. I have two books published. Deep Bay Vengeance and Deep Bay Relic. It's my first series. I'm working on my next series called The Blood War Trilogy right now. It's an Apocalyptic Thriller and I hope to have it out in the new year.
Hi I'm Dana & this is the second goodbooks group I've joined. I love Christian nonfiction & recently books on economic & political theory. Hope to have some edifying discussions & share the love of Christ with folks.
Hello I'm Jess, I got back from a D-now weekend and it was great! I discovered that I do need a Christian fellowship group in every aspect of my life, on here, at school and at church. :D
I'm Jason. Not a typical Christian (Christian Goth, actually), and I have a dark taste in stories. Nothing like erotica, but Christian horror, murder/mystery, sci-fi, alt-history, and even some humor and drama. Lightest I go is Rene Gutteridge and Karen Kingsbury. Heaviest preference is Stephen King, Dean Koontz, etc.
Christianity should always have some LIGHT Jason. But sometimes the darkness helps us to properly comprehend the light. "David had a Goliath." :cDI'm a huge fan of Dean Koontz. Sometimes i'm surprised he's not a Christian. He has some very enlightening thoughts and values.
What's up everybody. I'm Rickey. I joined the group to understand what's going on in the world of Christian lit as both a reader and author. Great so far. Glad to meet everyone.Jason, I have a new political thriller, Fighting for Glory, I'll let you take a peak at if you're interested. Not like typical Christian fiction at all.
Hello! My name is Dana and I live in Washington State! I am originally from Ohio, but moved out here to work in full time Christian Camping. I love Ted Dekker and young adult fiction! Also, I love movies...a LOT! I love meeting new people and reading fun books, and then talking to people I meet about those books! I have a group on good reads called "The Book Was Better" where people meet to talk about books that have been made into movies.
Hi All! I'm Katie. I read mostly fiction, but occasionally nonfiction, too. Looking forward to "reading" with you :).
Hello everybody. I'm the author of The Goodbye Chronicles series -- stories of people who find their way to God in the most "strangest" circumstances. It's not your everyday short story collection, but neither are the principalities we wrestle with everyday. I am excited to see what everyone is reading, and it's just a pleasure to be in the presence of people who love the Lord.
Hello - I'm Lorrie from Virginia, USA. :) I love reading all kinds of genres, but my favorite genre is True Crime..oddly. What's the saying: Truth is stranger than fiction". It's true! I also enjoy reading biographies of people who have "survivor stories" or those who are or were sold out for Christ. I can't wait to meet (amongst many other people) these wonderful folks in heaven: Keith Green, Joni Earickson Tada and Corrie ten Boom.
Hi Lorrie. There shouldn't be a Christian in the World who hasn't read the incredible accounts of Joni Eareckson-Tada or Corrie Ten Boom. My Christian theology is the way it is partly because of those two women. (and especially because Joni goes to John MacArthur's church. That should cause many church goers to have great FEAR and run to their study Bible...and yet it doesn't.)
I have a Keith Green Biography beside my bed. Next on my list of books to read.
I recently read a biography of Amy Carmichael (Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot.)talk about surviving and being a Christian woman who saves children. Makes me proud to be a Christian.
I've never read a single true crime book. Someday...
Howdy, I'm Rod Martin, Jr. from Texas-Oregon-Maryland-California-Arizona, now living in the Philippines with my wife.I joined Goodreads many months ago, but only recently started finding my way around. Amongst other things, looking for fellowship in the name of Jesus. Discussing spiritually guided books sounds like my idea of wonderful.
There are so many differing interpretations of scripture, I hope the members, here, are tolerant of yet one more. For in the final analysis, none of us know all of God's Truth and thus we need to remain humble and hungry to learn more.
I have been a divinity student in Los Angeles, many years ago, studying comparative religion. I have been a Hollywood artist with screen credit, a software engineer with a degree summa cum laude and a published author.
It's great to be here.
Hi, I'm Karin, a Canadian who has lived in the US for over 20 years. I am a Christian who reads a variety of books.
I didn't know Joni attended John MacArthur's church. I enjoy listening to his sermons on our local Christian radio station.I have "Through Gates of Splendor" that I haven't read yet. I'll have to check out "Chance To Die".
Hi I'm Kuok Hau from Malaysia. I love reading and exploring all kinds of genre. I'm currently exploring the world of Epic Fantasy & YA. God Bless.

Not sure if this group is for me. I was a Christian for 30 years but left the faith about 7 years ago. I don't have anything against Christianity and I'm not here to slam anybody's theology- I just stopped believing. I'm here because I still read a vast amount of Christian material: mostly but not entirely from the liberal end of the spectrum; and I'm here to pick up some reading suggestions. Please don't be offended if I leave this group as quickly as I came!
Hello! My name is Irene and I am a new Christian looking to expand my knowledge of Jesus and have insightful discussion. I am interested in meeting christians and get good reading recommendations!
Hello Irene. What kind of books so you enjoy reading? There's a book that I have enjoyed called The God I Love by Joni Eareckson Tada if you like biography in a difficult circumstance. Then there is Twelve Ordinary Men & Twelve Extraordinary Women by John Mac Arthur which are biographies of the apostles and different women in the Bible. Irene I hope you've found a good church. May God bless you in your search for the truth and for those who love Him.
It's always great to have some new faces here. Especially you Frederick - I enjoy discussing theological issues with non-Christians.
Hello. I joined this group a few months ago. I am a fiction writer. My first published work, The Book of Remembrance, was self published in 2012. I have pulled it since and I am rewriting it in order to pursue my dream of traditional publication. I hope to make a living writing gritty fiction stories, usually in an ancient European setting, that glorifies God.
I also LOVE reading. I like to read by bed lamp after my son has gone to sleep. My favorite genres are Fantasy, World History, Historical Fiction, Biographies, some YA, Fiction, Christian, Non Fiction, European History.... basically, if it is written well, not full of smut or anything demonic, I will read it :-)
Hello everyone! My name's Isobel and I've been following Christ for many years now. I've just made a group of my own and would really appreciate it if you guys would have a look :) https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Hi I am Dana. This is a wonderful group! I live in Kamloops, BC. My book has just been released so I am excited to share my heart with many people. I love Jesus, even on the topsy turvy days when he seems to be hiding. My life is a bit messy with a lot of good bits in between. I love books that tug at my heart strings, even if it means I go through silly amounts of tissue. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your group. I would love for you to drop by for a visit on my blog at www.danagoodmaninthecleft.comIn the Cleft Joy Comes In the Mourning: A Story of Hope After Tragedy

Hi everyone! I'm Yan, a new Christian after being an atheist for 30 years. I just started to read Christian books this year. After becoming a believer, I see the world from a completely different viewpoint. I recently finished The Case for Christ, and one book led to another, I'm reading Genesis and the Big Bang by Gerald Schroeder. The topics I'm interested in are apologetics, personal testimony, Christian living, prophecy, etc. Much of my interest comes from listening to Chuck Missler.
Hi everybody! I'm Dawn and I live in Northern Wisconsin with a spoiled Siberian Husky! I have always loved to read and write. Since I met the Lord 13 years ago, my interest centers around Him and His Kingdom.I look forward to meeting you and making new Christian friends in this group.
