The River Acheron is the first of three infernal rivers in Hell. The others being the Styx and the Phlegethon. All three eventually descend through all of Hell and pool into the Ninth Circle, where they freeze and form Lake Cocytus.

Charon ferries the shades of the damned across the Acheron. A dreary fog hangs over the water, and lightning strikes light up the sky above it.
