Yeah, great series, can't see how anyone doesn't like them.

I understand where you are coming from. In my opinion, the items that you mentioned are some of the things that makes it a great series. KMM creates characters that people have a love/hate relationship with. It tears at our emotions and you know that the characters are not really "good." I think that is the main point of the book. There really are no "good" characters in the series. Many are down right evil. Just because KMM writes about them and we read and enjoy the books does not mean we are condoning what the characters have done or allowed to have done to others. Some parts are hard to read. But those parts of the story shape certain characters. This series is not a HEA. But I still love the series.

Totally agree.

I understand if this is not ur cup of tea and I see no reason why people would need to attack you (with or without the aid of flying monkeys) for your opinion, since it was politely given without insult or malice. But considering all that is currently available in the genre, definitely one of the best.

Going by what you've said and what's on your Goodreads list, it seems like you haven't read many urban fantasy novels so how can you make a sweeping statement like that?
Authors like Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, Eileen Wilks, Jeaniene Frost, Rachel Cain, Ann Aguirre, Karen Chance, Gena Showalter, Shannon Mayer, Seanan McGuire, Jaye Wells and Darynda Jones are very popular at the moment.
You've only read three urban fantasy series so you haven't even scratched the surface.
If you're more into paranormal romance novels than urban fantasy then some of the authors mentioned above are still relevant, though I would add Christine Feehan, Kresley Cole and Sherrilyn Kenyon to the list.

I can't say I have them all listed on goodreads though (Singh, Frost, Cain, feehan, cole and Kenyon etc..) Considering I have't been active here for that long, and that I don't review/rate every book I read or have read in the past.
I find it funny that you can deduct I've only read three UF series based on the measly 90(ish) books I have listed on GR...
Anyway as for those you've suggested that I haven't read, I'll definitely give them a try.

Why do you consider that to be wrong? If your profile states that you're from Belgium, I'm going to believe that you're from Belgium. It's the same thing. If you've only listed 3 urban fantasy series as 'Read', I'm going to believe that you've only read 3 urban fantasy series, otherwise you would have listed more under that section.
If you've read a lot more books then put them under your 'Read' list. That way, the next time you're asking for recommendations, people can have a look at what you've already read and will be able to recommend things to you.
If you update your profile or give a specific list of series/authors you enjoyed, then I'll be able to help you. Did you enjoy this series specifically because of the faery aspect, or something else?

I love the faery aspect of the book, but I also really enjoyed the world building and the characters. I love fantasy in all shapes though so it doesn't really have to be faeries.
For example I loved the early anita blake series.
I loved the hunger games
I loved kelley armstrongs women of the otherworld.
I liked the angelfall books
I've already added a few of your suggestions to my (ever growing) TBR pile, so thanks!

I totally agree Susan. We each have our own opinions. And this is a great place to express and discuss those opinions. Hopefully without judgment or ridicule.

I loved the 1st book of the Hunger Games trilogy. That was the best one, IMO. The 2nd book I hated & I was a bit let down with how it closed in the final book. I did go see the 1st film and I wasn't all that impressed. So I had no desire to see the other 2 films. It's a trilogy I thought peaked in the 1st book & should have been left at that. Even though it's not a trilogy I love, I can see why many go gah gah for it. Especially when I think about all the love & hate that's paramount with the Twilight Saga. Books & Films alike.

You are not alone, Libbie. And I know how you feel as though no one else seems to get how annoying this series is; since I have endured many of my GR friends going gaga for Barrons and fangirling all over him. I don't understand what's so attractive about this guy and I don't like him, but comparing with Mac, Barrons looks pretty damn much like a saint.
I keep waiting for Mac to grow the fxxk up and become less selfish, but it never happens.]
I keep waiting for KMM to offer up some answer to the 9083986681011 questions she had thrown at us, but so far she offered hardly anything.
I keep waiting for KMM to write something impressive and surprising, but instead (view spoiler)

Took the words right out of my mouth. I honestly don't get why everyone is so crazy about Barrons. Rape is not okay no matter how glamorous the men are!!

Too true! But it seems like if the character is pretty all is forgiven (see: Barrons' abusive behavior, his taking sexual advantage of Mac when she couldn't consent, etc). I struggled through Iced because I'd hoped he'd die and stay dead but alas, twas not to be. :/ And Ryodan is WORSE than Barrons or V'lane. The only male character supporting character (besides the Highlander cameos, I guess, since they never raped/tortured/etc/ anyone the one Barrons, V'lane and Ryodan did, and Ryodan's victim was a kid, making him even ickier) who wasn't a total tool was Mac's adoptive father. IIRC he had standards and if he knew how Barrons treated his child... he'd be horrified at best.

I think that my biggest problem is that I cannot empathise with the main character. I have never lost a sibling or lost anyone to violence and I can see how that could strongly affect someone. However, there really isn't enough about the relationship between MacKayla and her sister to make me understand the devotion she has. I think that Moning should have spent a little more time on developing that relationship. Even if she did it through flashbacks that would have developed Mckayla's character a little more and made me like her.
I can't stand Barons either. He is just cruel for no apparent reason. From reading reviews I realize that this is explained in later books but I don't have the patience to get through all of the cruelty to find out.
Another problem I have with these books is that I don't really get a feeling for what Ireland is like in the books. I feel that an author should be very familiar with a location if they set a book there.
I was disappointed with the action scenes as well. They did not draw me in and I did not care if the characters survived.
This just is not my kind of series.

Another thing... My name is Danielle so when I saw Dannys name was Danielle I was like wooo my name is in the book! But then... She opened her mouth. I didn't care for her character at all, I felt her being so young in comparison to the rest of the cast wasn't well played out and I found myself skimming through her parts of the books. I cannot even imagine reading an entire book dedicated to her... annoying behavior. No thank you.

Smart move. KMM wrote Iced as if she was writing a romance with consenting adults. But Dani was STILL 14, Ryodan's much older, and Christian's still fighting the Unseelie Prince thing. I don't remember sex (thank god), but there was still unnecessary sexualization of Dani and Ryodan was doing fun things like breaking her fingers. But he's supposed to be the one she ends up with. ...It was gross.

Am I alone in a sea of fangirls, or are there others that just don't get the appeal? Who think that no matter how "sexy" V'lane is, he's also a rapist, and pretty gleeful/unrepentant about it? That think Barrons could have saved Mac several life-threatening problems/being gang-raped, if he'd just given her vital information rather than yelling at her when she didn't read his mind?
