Jane Eyre is our 1001 book for November. I hope anyone who chooses to read or re-read the book enjoys it. I certainly found it a magical book when I read it earlier in the year!

Sunny (travellingsunny) I had no idea how popular this book is. It's been picked by three or four of my groups now this year for reading.

And... it IS an excellent book! But, don't read this review until after you're read it yourself. There be SPOILERS here! http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Harri (books_and_tea) I read this last month. It really is a wonderful book, although I have to say I prefer Villette!

Bev (greenginger) | 296 comments This is a fantastic and beautiful story. It is chock full of period detail, a love story and a tragedy all in one. What more could you want? One of the best classics ever methinks.

message 5: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt I love this book over and over and over. There is something morbid about it. Almost the opposite to Jane austens novels. There was also a book written as a prequel called wide Sargasso Sea. Reading this made me love Jane eyre more. A perspective of rochesters love and despair for his wife

I read Wide Sargasso Sea for a Uni course and although I didn't love it, it certainly explains the story behind Jayne Eyre. A must read.

Wide Sargasso Sea is one of my favourites.

Kohinoor I adored this book! I had it sitting on my bookshelf for years before I cracked it open. A stunning read.

Barbm1020 | 57 comments I read it in high school, many years ago, and loved the dark brooding atmosphere that seemed to surround Heathcliffe and everyone near him. Sort of like the rain cloud in Li'l Abner that follows Joe Btfsplk. Now I have read The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde, and I can't really read the original book from the same perspective. The Eyre Affair

Vikki (vikki1) | 14 comments Barb, I think you have Jane Eyre and Wuthering heights mixed up.

The male character in Jane Eyre is Rochester, although I agree there is a brooding atmosphere when jane finds out he is married and runs away from him across the moors.

Barbm1020 | 57 comments Ha ha, joke's on me. I had my darkly mysterious male characters mixed up! Of course it's Rochester. Thanks, Vikki.

Vikki (vikki1) | 14 comments Jane Eyre is one of my favourite novels. Will definitely see if my local library has The Eyre Affair in, it sounds very good.

Selina (sleenorneenor) I'm reading this right now, and can't put it down. I can't believe I waited so long to read this book!!

Laura | 13 comments Just finished it not too long ago - cannot believe I waited this late in life to read that novel. So good- makes me sorry I was a rebellious child and did not take my mother's book choice advice lol

Diana Gotsch | 18 comments I read this as a high school student and loved it. thought it was so romantic. Reread it as a mother of teenager daughters and had a very different reaction. I will be curious to see if others have a similar experience.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Very Gothic, but a good read.
