Kevin Walsh | 47 comments What's your top 5 zombie novels of all time?

1. Eden- Tony Monchinski (the whole series in fantastic)
2. The Return Man- Z.M. Zito (a flawless zombie novel)
3. Monster Island- David Wellington (Maybe because it was the first zombie novel I've ever read and it started my love for all things zombie)
4. Domain of the Dead- Iain McKinnon
5. Rot and Ruin- Jonathan Maberry

I`ve been a book reviewer for a long time and these 5 are excellent reads. I am also reading another zombie novel called `TankBread` by Paul Mannering and it is impressing the hell out of me and surely might become a top fiver for me.

3. Apocalypse of the Dead
4. Pallid Light
5. Dying to Live

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) I know I'm cheating... but it is so hard to narrow it down to 5 books, so I'm listing my top 5 books or series. Plus some honorable mentions. Hope that's ok Kevin. :)

1) Newsflesh series by Mira Grant (awesome writing)
2) The Forest of Hands and Teeth series by Carrie Ryan (this series also feeds my love of dystopians)
3) Benny Imura series by Jonathan Maberry
4) White Flag of the Dead series by Joseph Talluto
5) The Return Man by V.M. Zito

I also really liked (honorable mentions):

Eden series by Tony Monchinski
Aftertime series by Sophie Littlefield
Ex-Heroes series by Peter Clines
Dead Living by Glenn Bullion
Domain of the Dead by Ian McKinnon
Allison Hewitt is Trapped by Madeleine Roux

Kevin Walsh | 47 comments Good to see some McKinney books in there, great guy.
Suzy, that's perfectly fine! I had a tough time narrowing it down to five. Great taste in zombie books.
The Return Man really impressed the heck out of me. Excellently written and had some amazing visuals.

message 7: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shansharpe) | 5 comments Ok My Favorites so Far (as with everyone else it is hard to pick only 5) but here goes~(These are the series as I love to read continuing characters..)I of course have tons more but so far....
Stephen Knight~ Gathering Dead Series
D.J. Molles~ The Remaining series
Rhiannon Frater~As the World Dies Series
Shawn Chesser~Apocalypse series
Mark Tufo~Zombie Fallout series

message 8: by Richard (new)

Richard Cosgrove Hmm, just 5 - OK, let's give it a go:

David Moody - Autumn (I'd choose the whole series but the first will always be a special book for me)
Brian Keene - The Rising (because he took the Z-mythos in a whole new direction at the time)
Max Brooks - World War Z
David Wellington - Monster Island (though I enjoyed the whole trilogy)
George A Romero / Susanna Sparrow - Dawn Of The Dead (love this novelisation of one of my all time favourite movies)

message 9: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Walsh | 47 comments I don't think I would count Hater as a zombie novel but it's pretty good. Autumn was a fun read.

I haven't read the Infection series by Dilouie yet but I'm meaning to.

message 10: by MommyDearest (new)

MommyDearest (mommydearest15) | 5 comments 1--Zombie Fallout series

Mike | 48 comments In no specific order:

* Day by Day Armageddon Series
* As The World Dies Series
* Plague of The Dead Series
* Dead World Series (I'm only on book #2 but love it)

message 12: by Sara (new)

Sara (bluesarat) | 464 comments Rise Again: A Zombie Thriller
Feed - the whole series
are my stand out faves

mentions to David Wellington - Monster Island
Rhiannon Frater - As the world dies series

and I loved Tankbread

message 13: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Walsh | 47 comments Tankbread is fantastic. Paul's very humble and he's working on Tankbread 2. TankBread got picked up by Permuted Press a few months ago.
Monster Island is fantastic, absolutely great.
I haven't read Frater yet, but I would really like to.

message 14: by Thia (new)

Thia (thial) | 133 comments I thought I'd resurrect this old thread and add my own favs since I just got some good suggestions from it.

Mine are mostly series

The Remaining series by D.J. Molles
Day by Day Armageddon series by J.L. Bourne
Mountain Man series by Keith C. Blackmore
Dark Recollections AUD series by Chris Philbrook
Zombie Fallout series by Mark Tufo

and surprisingly I very much enjoyed the My Life as a White Trash Zombie series by Diana Rowland. (I usually loathe sentient zombie stories or books from the zombie point of view - this is both)

also in the category of serious zombie books written from a pet's point of view the The Book of Riley: A Zombie Tale series was fantastic. The Incredible Journey or Homeward Bound meets The Walking Dead. I couldn't put it down.

message 16: by Lexxi Kitty (new)

Lexxi Kitty (lexxikitty) If I stuck to 5 star reads and included short stories:
- Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion
- Zoe, Undead by J.R. Knoll
- The Day the Dead Came to Show and Tell by Mira Grant
- San Diego 2014: The Last Stand of the California Browncoats by Mira Grant

If I didn't include short stories and did include things past 5 stars
1. Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion - 5.0
1. Zoe, Undead by J.R. Knoll - 5.0
3. Newsflesh "Trilogy" by Mira Grant
4. Death Valley by Andrew Cosby - 4.0
4. Victim Zero by Joshua Guess - 4.0
4. RIZEN: Tales of the Zombie Apocalypse by Kirk Anderson - 4.0

I'd include the Parasitology series by Mira Grant but those aren't technically zombies. I think. Then again, the zombies in Rise of the Corpses aren't technically zombies either. So I removed it from above.

Honorable Mention: aka maybe not zombies but seem to be zombies:
- Parasitology series by Mira Grant - 4.5 (first one in the series doesn't really contain zombies, second one does; well, zombie like creatures)
- Rise of the Corpses by Ty Drago - 4.0

message 17: by Bill (new)

Bill (charm) My top five (in order) favorite zombie books and/or series:
1. Area 187: Almost Hell, by Eric Lowther. Even after nearly three years, this is my gold standard for zombie novels. Waiting anxiously for the sequel.
2. The Remaining (Series) by DJ Molles. Riveting and seething with danger.
3. Purge of Babylon (series) by Sam Sisavath. Very close to DJ Molles in style and imagination.
4. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (series) by WJ Lundy. Military involvement.
5. Eden (series) by Brett Battles. Crazy good stories.
Honorable mentions:
• Day by Day Armageddon (series) by JL Bourne
• Zombie Fallout by Mark Tufo
• Patient Zero (Joe Ledger series) by Jonathan Mayberry
• 100 Days in Deadland by Rachel Aukes
• Extinction Point (series) by Paul Antony Jones

message 18: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) My top five are:
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
Dawn of the Dead
Marvel Zombies (series)
Closure, Limited
The Day of the Triffids (technically this isn't a zombie story; but the story contains all the same elements).

message 19: by Justin (new)

Justin (flowersjustin) What a great thread! I'm leaving off World War Z - Just because it's such a great book, and one that most people will have heard of.

1. The Mountain Man (Series) Keith C. Blackmore - this is a great series that I couldn't put down. In fact, I'm a fan of almost everything by this author.
2. The Remaining (Series) DJ Molles - This series is fantastic. It wanders a bit in the middle books but it's a fantastic arc. I recently re-read the first few books in the series after finishing the final book.
3. Adrian's Undead Diary (Series) Chris Philbrook - Great series. The ending gets a little crazy but it's well worth the journey.
4. The Walking Dead (Comic) - Especially the Neegan Storyline - starts at issue #100 I think.
5. Double Dead - Chuck Wendig - Not exactly a zombie story (it also involves a vampire) but it's a helluva fun story and I really enjoyed the way it was written and the humor.

message 20: by Vince (new)

Vince I'm always trying to find a book that gives the genre a new spin. Here's my five:

1) The Girl With All The Gifts
2) Ex-Heros (Series)
3) Dead (Series)
4) Patient Zero
5) White Trash Zombie (Series)

message 23: by sb072 (new)

sb072 | 2 comments Ha! Not me.. I'm bitter. I left a very important series off of the list.. Arisen by Michael Stephen Fuchs. If you haven't read that I'd get to it ASAP. That is how I'd be surviving.. though I'm no longer active duty.

message 24: by Thia (new)

Thia (thial) | 133 comments Haha! Bitter :) Me too.
