For Dec's book, I propose Fables: Peter and Max by Bill Willingham. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/64...
Based on the long-running and award-winning comic book series FABLES, PETER AND MAX is its own tale. Readers don't have to be familiar with the comics to fully enjoy and understand this book.
This story stars Peter Piper and his incorrigible brother Max in a tale about jealousy, betrayal and revenge. Set in two distinct time periods, prepare to travel back to medieval times and learn the tragic back-story of the Piper family, a medieval-era family of traveling minstrels. Then, jump into the present to follow a tale of espionage as Peter Piper slowly hunts down his evil brother for a heinous crime, pitting Peter's talents as a master thief against Max's dark magical powers.
I want to recommend:Manga: Bride of the Water God, Volume 1
Comic: Embroideries
and Sweet Tooth, Vol. 1: Out of the Deep Woods because I wanted to read that but then it didn't make it in the polls. ^^
Book: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
I'd like to recommend The Magicians' Guild. This is book is fantastic. It is set in a world that has magic, all of the upper class citizen's are tested for magic and then sent to the Magicians' Guild where they are taught to control their powers.
One day a girl from the slums accidentally uses magic without realising she has the potential and suddenly a hunt to find her is on! If she can't control it she could blow up the city! If they let in one girl from the slums do they have to let in anyone with potential!
Mayhem ensues and it has a truly horrible bad guy too!

Novel: City of Golden ShadowBy Tad Williams
I second (third, fourth, whatever!) Sweet Tooth, Vol. 1: Out of the Deep Woods (I've now made it my mission to expose it to as many people as possible - you guys DEFINITELY want to read it!).I'm also going to suggest again John Dies at the End. Since the movie has gotten distribution finally (rave reviews, by the way) I figure you guys should really read the book first ;).

Me too
I sent out a group message moments ago with Fables categorized as a comic book. Just to clear up any confusion, the Fables that Anna is recommending is clearly the novel, and I misread it. Whoops, I sowwie! Of course, you guys can recommend the comic, but any vote for Fables will be counted towards the novel unless you specify otherwise.
Definitely a VOTE for Sweet Tooth!VOTE for City of Golden Shadow.
And I suggest The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
The Road
"A searing, postapocalyptic novel destined to become Cormac McCarthy’s masterpiece"
Wait wait! Must add a VOTE for The Gate to Women's Country and The Chrysalids. Feeling a strong and sudden need to read a post-apocalyptic or dystopian book!
The Gate to Women's Country by Sheri S. Tepper
Bride of the Water God, Volume 1
by Mi-Kyung Yun
, The Gate to Women's Country.

List view of the votes so far. Recommending the book will get it on this list, preceding votes are represented by an asterisk. I'll recount the votes this Friday so get your recs and votes in now!

For our new members and those unfamiliar with how the books are picked every month, here are the updated guidelines. There are 3 selections that we read every month as a group. One comic book, one manga, one novel. Of course, not everyone here reads manga or novels so the choice to either read one selection or all three is completely up to you. The three final selections are picked from polls based on all of your recommendations in our monthly thread. Of each poll, there are only 3 nominations. Nominations are picked according to popularity so only comments with the word "VOTE" is considered a vote towards that recommendation. This is to clear up any confusion and make it straightforward about what's considered a vote. In the case where two or more books are equally praised, I will simply pick the suggestion that was posted first (by date, and if necessary, time). Here are other rules:
1.) Do recommend as many books as you like as long as it falls under these genres:
- any comic book
- any manga
- books that fall under fantasy or science fiction. Further examples: apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, outer space, futuristic, steampunk, medieval, dark fantasy, magic, superheroes, zombies, vampires, goblins... basically, anything epic and/or imaginary.
2.) Do recommend a book more than once as long as it hasn't been a previous read of the month. A book can be renominated for the polls.
3.) Do be specific. Saying "any book by ______" won't be counted.
4.) Do vote for as many recs as you like. Of course, don't vote for the same thing twice. (Fyi, any book you recommend is counted as a vote.)
5.) Do change or remove your vote(s) as many times as you like before this thread closes.
6.) If we decide to do a theme for a particular month, only recs that follows that theme will be counted.
7.) Lastly, please link your books so we can easily look it up (unless your book isn't listed by Goodreads then that's understandable. Just make sure to name the author).
After votes are collected, the three most popular comic books, novels, and manga will enter the polls. The three polls are held during the last week of the month, and results will be announced on the first day of the following month. Both moderators and members may start discussion threads based on our reads of the month. We're always looking for volunteers for discussion leaders so inbox me if you're interested in leading a discussion for one of the reads of the month. When participating in a discussion, make sure you state your checkpoint or announce SPOILERS so you don't ruin it for your fellow members. I think I pretty much covered everything. If there's something you're still unclear about, feel free to ask us in this thread.
