Upon entrance into Hell's capital, the infernal City of Dis, Dante descends into the lair of those who either denied the existence of God and the soul or who worshipped false idols and devils. They are encased within flaming tombs or nailed to inverted burning crosses. Heretics and Pagan conjurers are free to worship the "Fallen One" and guard this circle.

Flaming Tombs
The Flaming Tombs is a location in the sixth circle of Hell, Heresy. It rests just within the City of Dis. Heretics remain trapped in these fiery tombs for eternity. Amongst those trapped in these crypts are Farinata Uberti and Cavalcante de Cavalcanti.

Heretics

Heretics are tall, thin, gray skinned demons who start appearing in the sixth circle of Hell.

They have more magic attacks than most minions and are usually seen using those more than melee. Their abilities consist of energy shields, that they can also use on other minions, that block all magic and mana abilities, such as Dante's Cross and bolts of electricity that can be shot from their staff. They are sometimes accompanied by similar foes known as Pagans.

Pagans

Alongside the Heretics, Pagans are first encountered by Dante in Hell's sixth circle, reserved for the sin of Heresy. They appear as vile-looking priests, who carry a staff which is often adorned with a goat's skull, and can attack Dante from a distance by firing balls of magical energy. Unlike Heretics, however, the Pagans do not possess the power to make themselves or any surrounding enemies immune to Dante's holy powers. In life, these shades were once worshipers of the old Gods. Now, they are corrupted by Lucifer's influence as the dark magicians of the Sixth Circle.
