Avery pushed open the door to her favorite bagel shop. Well, it was the only bagel shop in town, so it made sense. She walked up to the front counter and scanned the menu.

The door bell tinkled as Kasey opened the door and made her way to the counter. She stood behind another girl she didn't recognize, but since she was new, there were a lot of people she didn't recognize. Kasey looked at the menu and thought about what to order.
Avery turned her head slightly to the new girl standing behind her. She finally decided what she wanted."Excuse me?" She said catching the attention of the girl at the counter. "May I have a strawberry bagel?"
The waitress smiled at her. "Of course." She replied and went to the back of the store to get her one.
Kasey waited as the cashier got the girl's bagel. When it was her tern she asked "Hi, could I have your chocolate chip bagel please?" The cashier smiled as she answered "Of course." She reached behind the glass to get the bagel.
When Avery was handed her bagel, she looked around the small shop for a table. They were all taken, except for a medium sized square table in the back. She made her way to the table. When she got there, she pulled out one of the metal chairs, hearing it scrape across the tiled floor, and sat down.
After Kasey had gotten her bagel, she looked around. There were no tables. The girl in front of her had just sat down at the only one left. It was pretty big, maybe they could share? Kasey walked over to her. "May I?" She gestured to a chair at the end of the table?
Avery smiled softly at the girl and nodded her head. She nibbled quietly on her bagel as she took in the many delicious scents of the shop.
Kasey sat down quietly and took a bite out of her bagel. She savored the warmth and chocolaty taste of it. She had to admit, the place had good bagels.
Avery looked around the shop, avoiding eye contact with the girl sitting across from her, until, finally, she glanced her away."So, um," She said, trying to think of something to say. "I'm Avery."
Kasey, shaken our of her daydream, looked over at the other girl. "I'm Kasey." She replied tentatively. You can never know who's your friend and who's your enemy.
"Hi." Kasey replied. "Is your bagel good?"
Avery nodded her head. "Delicious." She replied. "How's yours?"((Ia m so sorry! I had karate class.))
((Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry!!! I had to go somewhere Friday night and I forgot my Ipod and Saturdays and Sundays are always hectic, so I didn't have time to check!! I'm so sorry!!!))
Kasey answered. "Yes." The awkwardness between them stretched out like a thick, wet blanket. Kasey tapped a beat on the table, trying to think of something to say.

((Thanks!))
"No, not yet. Is it good?" Kasey asked. She was still wary of the other girl.

Kasey smiled at her enthusiasm. "What's your favorite ice cream flavor?"
((I finally finished Avery's character profile! *happy face*))Avery thought for a moment. "Vanilla." She finally decided. It was simple and plain, and that's all she ever wanted her life to be like.
((Haha!! Great! Now I can see what she looks like!!! *equally happy face*))
"Seriously! Me too!" Kasey's eyebrows rose. No one like Vanilla anymore.
"Seriously! Me too!" Kasey's eyebrows rose. No one like Vanilla anymore.
"I know!" Kasey exclaimed as she munched on her bagel. "No one appreciates the smooth taste of vanilla anymore. You don't realize how much you miss it until it's gone." Kasey quieted. She hadn't meant to say that last part. It's been so long since she has had ice-cream (5 years, exactly), just thinking about it made her crave it. They don't exactly give you sweets in jail.
Avery casted her gaze down to her barely half eaten bagel. Kasey's last words brought back memories. Things she hadn't thought about in a long time. She put her smile back. "So, do you go to the school a couple of blocks away?" She asked. There weren't that many schools around the town anyway.
"Yep. Just started. What about you?"
"Cool. Only a month? Where were you before?" Kasey finished her bagel and leaned on the table.
"Nice. I was born there. Or so I'm told." Kasey saw her facial expression and was puzzled.
Kasey was a little weirded out. "What's so interesting about it?"
Avery's smile looked a little suspicious, but Kasey didn't want their conversation to end so she replied. "9th, you?"
"Cool. You must be pretty smart then. What do your parents think about it?" Kasey smiled.
Avery's reaction startled Kasey. Normally, when asked what their parents thought about something, they would give a good or bad response about them. Most times, they were lying and Kasey knew it, but this girl was horrible at it. Kasey decided to go along with it "Your lucky. My parents are dead and the only person that cares is an old lady who's nearsighted. So she can't read my report cards because she always needs her glasses, which are always lost."
"Nope. She's my new 'Mother', but she could be my grandmother. She's okay though. It could be worse." Kasey sighed.
"Really?" Kasey was surprised. No one really knew how she felt unless they had experienced it themselves. This girl obviously knew pain. "Are your parents alive?" "
"I....don't know." She said. She had never seen her parents. She was taken away from them at birth. She didn't even know their names.
"Oh." Kasey remembered her parents. Her dad was an alcoholic and drug-addict. Her mom was the same. One night, they got into a fight and the neighbors called the cops on them, so Kasey was put into a foster home until everything was sorted out. The foster home was the worse place Kasey had ever been to. They didn't like her there, so it was a miserable 6 months. When she returned to her parents, they kept their noses clean for a year or two, but got right back into drugs and alcohol again. Both died of an overdose. From then on, Kasey was on her own until she broke into the power plant and got arrested. She was in for 5 years. After that, she was put back into the system and got adopted by the old lady, Mrs. Mitchell. She was a widow and needed a companion, so she adopted Kasey.
Avery could tell the Kasey was deep in thought."So...." She said. She held her hand out for the other girl to shake. "Friends?"
Kasey was shaken out of her day-dream. She glanced at Avery's outstretched hand. "Sure, friends." Kasey shook it firmly.
Kasey wasn't used to having friend. In the Juvie facility, you had allies, not friends. Kasey didn't know what friends did. "So, what now?"
Avery looked at the watch on her hand. "Now," She said a little sadly as she stood up from her chair. "I have to go home. See you tomorrow?"
Kasey stood with her "I have something going on after school tomorrow. How about the day after? Maybe around 3?"
