Hello, I'm Jill. I read a wide variety of books and love intelligent crime - Kate Atkinson, Val McDermid, Thomas Harris, Alexander McCall Smith and crossovers into literary fiction (Donna Tartt), historical fiction (love Sarah Waters and Kate Summerscale) and Dorothy L. Sayers will always be a favourite. Looking forward to hearing more recommendations.

I am an avid reader. My first love and go to genre has always been mystery suspense. I read all kinds of books though. Historical fiction and romance are my next favorite genres.

Hi, I'm Mike. Depending on my mood I'll read just about anything but my preference is non-fiction and detective/mystery/crime fiction... If I had to pick a favorite type of crime novel, it would probably be straight ahead pulp style detective novels. I also really like puzzle type mysteries where you get all the information to solve it yourself (I read a lot of Encyclopedia Brown books as a kid) and I'm especially fond of stories that feature oddball, quirky, eccentric characters.

I'm not much for anything involving vampires, werewolves, zombies, mummies, wizards, elves, etc. unless you've really, really, really, really, re-he-he-he-he-he-he-he-eallly got a unique take on it.

Hi, I'm Carmen and I write mysteries as well as read them. My favorite authors are Robert B. Parker (thought Ace Atkins did a superb job with the first posthumous Spenser novel) as well as Jo Nesbo, Ian Rankin, Donna Leon, and Martin Cruz Smith. Alexander McCall Smith's books are great relaxing mysteries and I just got his latest. Looking forward to hear what others are reading!

I'm historical novelist, Karen Charlton. My first novel, 'Catching the Eagle' is the true tale of my husband's notorious criminal ancestor: Jamie Charlton.

Last year, the first seeds of a plot for a 'whodunit' began to germinate in my head. Before I knew it, I had a Regency mystery to solve and 'The Missing Heiress' was born.

Set in Northumberland 1809, 'The Missing Heiress' is a spin-off novel from my first book and features two of the minor characters: Detective Stephen Lavender and his good-natured sidekick, Constable Woods. Their first case in the series takes them back to Northumberland to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a beautiful heiress.

'The Missing Heiress' is now released in hardback and eBook format.

Sometimes I cannot remember the names of the books I have read, thus need to write them down. Kinda scary, I think. Christie, P.D.James, Mankell, Nesbo,Louise Penny etc. are the ones I remember top of my head, but there are numerous others worth reading and re-reading. Hello fellow crime and detective book readers! I am new to Goodreads but am hopeful of finding others who like some of the same books and authors I like. This group sounds like it will fill one area nicely. I have always loved to read and anything with a mystery element was my favorite. When I ran through all the kids books, which didn't take long, I started raiding my parents and grandparents bookshelves so I was exposed to a wide variety early on. I am trying currently to go through my lists of collected books/authors to add to Goodreads, then will try to add all the other misc books, but that will take quite a while. I may add more about myself later, but one key point to make here is that although I truely enjoyed Nancy Drew my fav girl detective when I was young was Trixie Belden. :-D

I'm R Lawson Gamble and the name of this discussion group precisely fits my passion, both reading the genre and writing it. I've self-published one novel, in which an FBI agent and his Navajo friend track a child killer across the Southwest. Hello, I'm sorry, i didn't see this thread before I started posting. I'm Hugh (A.K.A. I, Curmudgeon). I'll read anything and I'm currently a pure reader who reviews for fun on Goodreads (rather than professionally or with an axe to grind).

I'm a John Sanford-Virgil Flowers fan, I love Steven James and his Patrick Bowers Files series and I still count Jack Daniels (Konrath) as a favorite, though I usually mean the first three books of the series (though I've read all of them).

I'll try any author once, and, if I like them, I'll say so and read more.

If you like Carl Hiaasen try Elmore Leonard. For James Lee Burke, try Ridley Pearson or Lee Child. Not sure about James W Hall. But, you might also like Michael Connelly or Harlen Coben.
