Nicole wandered around the paths, kicking at stones. She felt stupid, she had probably just overreacted. She shouldn't have stormed out like an idiot, Trey was a nice guy but he wasn't that nice. He probably thought she was crazy, some lunatic fan girl who wanted to monopolize his time. She sighed and continued kicking at the stones which were scattered about.
"You shouldn't vandalise the garden" Trey said jokingly as he patted her head and smiled. He wasn't sure why he was here, but...he was going with intuition here. Nicole was certainly something else. He twisted around so he was facing her. "I came, milady" he said as he took a bow.
Nicole blinked and opened her mouth to respond but closed it again, not sure what to say. "You came." She finally said quietly. She blinked and cleared her throat, fighting the blush creeping its way across her face. She tapped his shoulder with the tip of her finger and said lightly, "no bowing. Just because you like pretending I'm a lady doesn't mean I am one."
"I did indeed" he replied, not sure where he was going with this. "Everyone is a lady when it matters. Even the manliest man is a lady on the inside" Trey replied. And here came his quirky personality.
That wasn't the response Nicole had expected and it startled a laugh out of her as she imagined some of the jocks at school hearing that. "If you say so." She said mischievously with a glint in her eye. She tilted her head and smiled, "is this the topic of conversation you have with every girl, or am I just special?"
Trey's face moulded into a thoughtful expression as he mulled this over. He stroked an imaginary beard as he thought. Then he looked at her suddenly and blurted out, "You're special" After this came out he looked almost shocked at himself.
Nicole blinked, she hadn't expected him to really answer. And he looked so serious she had to look away. A warm feeling had spread throughout her core and she was trying to push it away, he was a 'host' it was his job to make girls feel special. So she laughed as if he had told a joke and changed the subject, "so. You like acting, you're a regular comedian, and you're in the host club. Anything else I should know about you?"
Trey smiled, the shocked look gone as he twirled around. "I'm hilarious!" he said happily, totally serious. He slipped and nearly fell into a rose bush, catching his balance but picking a rose in the instant. He held it out to Nicole.
Nicole took the rose slightly dubiously, this boy is unreal she thought to herself. She noticed he hadn't answered the question but she let it slide. "So... Why did you follow me out here? I mean, I know I invited you but I can't really be so interesting you'd ditch all those girls just dying to get close to you. I'm not all that pretty, and my family isn't all that influential plus my sister is the one who will take over."
"Why would your family have to do with you? They're not the ones that interest me" he said, his face a few inches from hers as he settled his feet, so he wouldn't fall back into the rose bush. He realised how close he was to Nicole in that instant and blinked once, going still.
Nicole was frozen and it took her a moment to remember how to breathe without rasping. She took a step back and looked down so that her hair acted as a curtain and hid her face. "That's what most people at this school care about isn't it? In fact it's the only thing they care about. Whether you stand to inherit or not, whether your family is influential or not." The last part came out bitterly, though she wasn't directing any of it at her family.
"No offence to any of the people at the school, but I was abandoned by my family a long time ago. No one knows. I'm a scholarship" he said truthfully. He hated his family. He had been ruined because of one little mistake. He looked over Nicole's shoulder absently.
Nicole's mouth formed an 'o'. "Well, I'm honored that you told me." She finally said, awed that he had shared something with her that none of the other students knew. She swallowed nervously, "um if you want to talk to me about anything, you're welcome to... I know life is hard sometimes." Nicole blushed and stopped talking when she realized she was babbling.
Trey smiled lopsidedly. "Thank you. Beware, I may take you up on that offer" he said. "However, now is the time for fixing up my host class. See you later, princess" He leaned forward and kissed her cheek gently before leaving.
Nicole was blushing like mad as she watched him walk away. She touched her cheek for a moment dazedly before realizing the time and that she was needed elsewhere.
"They are, they always seem so delicate to me yet they can be quite resilient." Lucas said absently, staring off at one flower in particular.
"Really?" Lucas asked in surprise. "Well that's great that you already know what you want to do after school without your family's influence... Unless you come from a family of florists?"
"Sounds like there's a story there." Lucas said lightly. He sighed and leaned back on his palms and looking up at the sky he sighed, "don't worry I won't pester you into telling me. It seems everyone here has a something they want to hide."
Lucas' eyes flicked to her as her shoulders shook. He put an arm around her and let her cry on his chest.
"No it's not, unless they are tears of joy making someone cry is never ok." Lucas said, his tone somewhere between fierce and flat.
"Right." Lucas said and moved his arm away. "Well, now that I've made you fall, and then cry are you sure you still want to be around me?" He asked.
Lucas sat with her in silence, his mind wandering to Trey and wondering what his friends was up to. He had been even more out of sorts than he usually was.
"There are plenty of things to worry about." He replied darkly. He cleared his throat and smiled at her, "how very perceptive of you."
"I'm sure Trey is fine." Lucas said, sounding confident but needing to reassure himself more than he needed to reassure Kuro.
