Rather than a "BookTalk" in front of the class, please discuss your books here.

Some discussion topics include:
1. Are the characters in your book realistic and if so how? Can you relate to them or do they remind you of teens you know? Would you be friends with any of the characters in your book? Explain. NO REAL names mentioned in responses.

2. What have you learned from your book or has your opinion about the topic changed from reading this book?

See where the discussion takes you. Stay on topic, but feel free to have an organic discussion about the book. Read the other discussions on GoodReads for ideas about what else to discuss.

Nathan Miller | 1 comments I disliked the book "the skin I'm in" it was not the most interesting book ever it was pretty boring about a girl with her problems mostly about her so called friend and everybody made fun of her because she was blacker than all the other black kids in her school and how her mom makes her cloths for her anchorage teacher is making things harder for her ex. How she singles her out for being late or. Doing something wrong it was boring I would rate it a 0.1 out 10.

Nathan, thank you for joining the discussion! I appreciate your effort to rate the book. Hopefully you will enjoy your next book more than this one.

Isn't is unfortunate that her so called friends were making fun of her? What does that tell you about your peers? Are you kind to each other? Or are you part of the problem? We must always remember to be extra kind to each other.

Star | 1 comments I cried at the end of this book. to be Honest this book hits home than some people realize. The topic of colourism, and being colorstruck are taboo topics in the black community. they don't want to talk about it. you know the saying the "darker the berry the sweeter the juice." Maleeka is a wonderful character that i see myslef in. No one should ever feel bad because of the hue of thier skin tone but thats how this society works though. we were taught that being darkskin is unattractive when in reality it's person's facial features that is what makes them undisarble. I hated Charlese but i kind of wished that maleeka was more confidnt like how she is. In the end Brown comes in all shades we are all beautiful rather we are lightskinned or darkskinned or even in between. I love that Maleeka gets Caleb it's so cute. Thanks Sharon one of the best books from you
