It is a good book, but it took me a bit to get into it. The pacing is slow, it's intriguing and interesting, bit of mystery but not a heart-pounding page-turner. More of a family drama type story. It's not going to be for everyone. But I'm glad I stuck with it.
I loved this book - if you haven't already read it, I recommend Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It has many of the same gothic qualities, and is also about characters who love books.I also think prescribing books is a wonderful idea. Sometimes you need something that just lets you wallow in a certain mood, and other times you need a little help snapping out of it.
Oh, that is such a beautiful book. I read it last summer, it's one of my favorite books read in 2007. Happy reading!
this was a book that i loved.very haunting, but also a bit relatable (at least to margaret's love of books).
i'll have to check out shadow of the wind, sounds good.
I liked this book too. One of the few books to actually make me chuckle out loud - her description early in the book of why she must always sit when reading.

Something I really related to was the theme of the love of books throughout the story. In one scene a doctor, a minor character, prescribes "Sherlock Holmes" for what he diagnoses with some humor as the effects of overly romantic tendencies feed by much repeated reading of such books as "Jane Eyre", etc. Being familiar with both the malady and Sherlock Holmes, I understood his choice. It made me chuckle. It made some sense to me, had some truth in it, and I really liked the idea of a doctor understanding the love of stories enough to "prescribe" a book as treatment.
