Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11212 comments 15.8 -- Red Rover, Red Rover
Red Rover is an outdoor game played primarily by children on playgrounds. Røver is a Norwegian word for "pirate", so perhaps the early British were showing bravery by daring the Viking raiders to "come over". The 1829 book titled The Red Rover by James Fenimore Cooper describes the exploits of a pirate called "Red Rover." For this task, read a book with a main character who is a pirate or privateer. These lists might help: Pirates!, Historical Pirate Romance Books. The pirates can be modern-day seafaring pirates as well. Example: Terror on the Seas: True Tales of Modern-Day Pirates.
Required: If not obvious from the GRs description, explain how your book choice fits the task when you post.

From the GRs description, it doesn't sound like either of the main characters (Orpheus or Malva) are actually pirates. So, no, this one won't work. Sorry!

Yes, space pirates will work.

message 15: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) If anyone is looking, I'd like to highly recommend Red Seas Under Red Skies for this task (lots of piratey stuff in there!) It's the second book in a series (The Lies of Locke Lamora is the first), but they're both fantastic and total page turners.

Riona (rionafaith) Also, I wonder if anyone has read any good books about Grania O'Malley (aka Grace O'Malley) that they can recommend? I'm supposedly distantly related to her (or so my dad likes to think), and this task would be perfect to read more about her.

The Assassin's Curse

I believe one of the main characters is a pirate's daughter and a pirate herself

Catrina Donnelly | 24 comments Could you please verify that this book will be ok. The blurb on back talks about pirates but this isn't shown on the GR page.

Mistress Below Deck

Thank you

Yes. I found a description on Google Books that mentions the pirates.

message 28: by Diane L (new)

Diane L I'd like to read Pirates of Barbary: Corsairs, Conquests and Captivity in the 17th-Century Mediterranean by Adrian Tinniswood. Since this is non-fiction there will probably not be a main character but the whole book is about pirates and pirate encounters in the Mediterranean.

No, sorry, he actually needs to be a pirate not just dress up like one.

That's okay, I found another that will work. Main character is a privateer for England during the war against Napoleon.
