The Anime that Never End

I personally think that all stories should come to an end at some point. I mean, I do get disappointed when a series is too short, but when it starts to drag, I lose interest.
Sailor Moon ended. It just feels like it never did. lol
D.Gray-Man's one that never "ended" in the anime (they stopped the anime, but the manga's ongoing)

I don't like watching anime which has lots and lots of episodes because when I get to the middle I give up on it. But if it was a shorter anime I somehow enjoy iy more. For me, long animes feel like you HAVE TO watch it.In the Melancholy of Harhui Suzimiya for 8 episodes
It is repeated over and over. This was called the endless eight. They same things happen, but slight changes happen every episode. I went up to episode 3 of the endless eight and suddenly gave up. I read the rest of the episodes on wikipedia to see I missed anything. I found out it was a total waste of time!
Except for episode 8 in the end, but still I saved a lot of time!
Endless Eight was so poorly executed it wasted most of the good will and interest the first season generated. I know a lot of people who were ready to give up on the series, until the movie came out and was awesome enough to win back fans.On the subject of series that ended while the manga was still going on:
- Fruits Basket is easily the best example I've seen. They found a good way to end the anime even though the story wasn't finished.
- His and Her Circumstances is the worst. Without spoilers - they just went as far as they could and ended in the middle of a mini-arc basically with a "tune in next week..." only it was the final episode of the anime ever.
- Kenshin was the saddest. They got ahead of the manga, made up their own filler, which was so bad the series was pulled before they could make more of the manga stories (though there were oav's later).
Yes I love how they end some shoujo anime like Fruits Basket, Ouran High and Special A. Of course the manga goes on for a longer time, but the anime was pretty satisfying!
Kare Kano ending was so horrible, but I loved it. IIRC, they actually ran out of funding and didn't even do the last episode. *most anime run for 24 or 26 while this one went for 25. If you watch the anime you can actually see where the episodes get more and more cheaply made. The storyline is great though, and the manga is amazing too, so it brought me to the manga.
Berserk didn't have an ending. You start out with the last episode and then go all the way till you get to that episode, and then it just ends.
I dropped Inu Yasha about a month before it finished, and sadly, I never had any desire to pick it up again to finish it. I just didn't care anymore because it was always one more thing.
Hikaru no Go was long, but I think only 75 episodes? I would have liked that one to keep going. The manga was really long also and I was sad for that ending too. I heard there were supposed to be OVAs continuing it, but I never heard of more coming out and I've been out of the loop for a long time.
Prince of Tennis. I love the show, but it goes on sooooo long, it's like Dragonball Z with tennis. The battle scenes just go on forever. But the filler episodes were just awesome so not only did I make it to the end, I watched it again.
Hana Yori Dango also had to make up it's own ending because it got ahead of the manga, but I did like the ending. I think I was just glad it ended. I do love the series, but I get kind of annoyed when something new keeps being added to make it keep going, especially when it's a love story.
Sailor Moon was also guilty of getting ahead of the manga, that's why that first arc of R with the aliens exists.
I gave up on Naruto also. I watched it until the filler episodes, skipped those and started Shippuden. But honestly, I was tired of it by that time so I didn't make it very far before giving up on it.
I made it all the way in HunterXHunter anime, and read all the manga that was currently available. It was ongoing but no new stuff was out for it for over a year? when I moved on from that.
One of the things I love about anime is that it's usually a clear story, and you have to watch them in order to get them. Not like..spongebob where you don't need to watch any and can just sit down and watch whatever. It starts, there's clear progression and we're working towards an ending. But just because it mostly does that, doesn't mean they all do. And while I'll enjoy them for the now, they have no staying power for me and I usually wind up dropping them quickly.
You make a very good point, anime are supposed to have a certain story unlike cartoons. But with filler episodes an anime just loses its characters and is almost like a cartoon which you can watch any episode in between
I actually have to say, that some of these animes are things you grow up with, and as a kid, you probably don't notice as much, it's when you're a teenager and wanting to start a new series where that really starts to irk you since we need to balance our anime watching with other animes and school and lives and such, but I have to say, if an anime is genuinely good, like Sailor Moon--filler episodes an all, then why not? But if its just to keep making money and the story is falling apart? Then by all means--PLEASE end it! I like longer animes, since you really get into them, love the characters, generally are memorable, and overall are just amazing. Especially Sailor Moon (200) and Yu Yu Hakusho (112)
@Sinai I love Yu Yu Hakusho, I have seen almost the entire series! And yes I totally agree with you :) Wish I had mre time to watch some other long anime !
I know what you all means when it comes to bleach, naruto, and one piece, but I still hang trough it just to see how long are they going to be-but then again I found it fun to see if I can sit through any long anime.
I own 7 seasons of Dragon Ball Z. All together it's about 86 hours of anime. It would take you almost four full days of nonstop watching to get through all of that. I know that Dragon Ball Z has at least two more seasons(Not to mention the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT). That is a lot of anime to watch. I would not be able to do it. Everyone is going to spend the entire 20 minute episode charging up their attacks and then you hear "Next time on Dragon Ball Z!". Shows get that long for a reason: filler.
I loved watching it as a kid, too, but I didn't realize then how annoying filler was. I just thought all of the attacks and stuff were cool. As an adult, I feel a bit like my time is being wasted. Now I fast forward through episodes because the fights take so long. I still love Dragon Ball Z, but I will admit that length of the series it very tiresome.
A rule of thumb is that if it goes past 26 episodes, it's going to drag on and suck badly. The only one that I've really wanted to see more of after that is Trinity Blood, because it had no filler, and ended only because the author died. While I haven't watched a lot of anime of those kinds of series, I've stopped reading manga if they do that. Bleach, Naruto, Negima, Shaman King, and others get hard to justify owning 40+ volumes, and even with the filler it's hard to ever see any anime adaption completing them.
I loved Shaman King's anime, it stopped at the right point. But there are some anime with two/three seasons each with 26 episodes. Those are pretty good.Yeah, which is why I gave up on Fairytail after 56 episodes but I really want to watch more!
For me i think i watch the longest anime when i first start watching animes:1- Naruto+Naruto shippuuden (i think it may end in 2 years)
2- One piece (it may end because they reached the last sea)
3- Detective Conan (iam still watching and believe me its 670 episodes now and it was since 1996 until now )
4- Kenshin (Done)
5- Inuyasha (need to wacth season 2)
6- Bleach (left 30 ep) but it finished
7- Sailor Moon (saw it all)
8- Katekyō Hitman Reborn (lool when i was soon to keep with them, they suddenly finished the episodes, but the manga is still ongoing)
9- Fairy tale (keeping with them)
10- Gintama (Hoping to start watching it, but dont know when) :p 3 seasons
The only animes I remember feeling like it took forever and dropped halfway (Not even.) were:Kirarin Revolution... I stopped watching around the time they started to 3D it.
Mermaid Melody: stopped at episode 40 something
InuYasha. I got to episode 100.
Anna wrote: "I just think longer series are harder to get into. They just seem so... daunting."
Ha ha, yeah. Even if they're finished, if they're too long you look at it and go, "I'm interested, but not 100+ episodes interested." I've done that. :)

I feel like Marmalade Boy goes on forever! I really like the show but it is soooo dramatic and with all of the episodes it gets kind of overwhelming.

Nevertheless, I love some of these! They are just so enjoyable :)
A few are:
Pokemon
Sailor Moon
Inuyasha(which FINALLY got over)
Naruto
Bleach
One Piece
What do you think about these anime? Thumbs up or down?
